Ive been looking around for a shotgun(my first) mainly for duck hunting. I'm trying to keep it in the 200 range and i have seen the Remington 870 and the mossberg's. i like the 870 because of the interchangeable chokes.but is there any other shotgun i should look in to? and are any of the mossbergs any of you would recommend?

$200 range is gonna be somewhat tuff. You are limiting yourself to pumps and singles...unless you want used; then you *might* score an autoloader.
Either of the two you mentionedare TUFF to beat. The only other name that comes to my mind anywhere near that range is Stoger.....but I dont recall them having a Pump
As for the Mossy...the 500, 500A, or the 590 are all decent guns..........I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered....

1.)All humanity would be better off if Stoooopid hurt.
2.)Why is it that if guns are sooooo unsafe that you're 9 times more likely to die at the hands of your doctor?
3.)Remember...Buy it cheap & stack it deep

i dont mind getting something used
is there any disadvantages to pump the only thing i can think of is speed...
i wasnt too sure about the mossy because of the fixed chokesComment

Benelli Nova Pump, great hunting shotgun for a great price. Get the recoil reducer when you have the $$$ and be happy.Comment

I personally LOVE pumps over anything else. No nothing's wrong with used if you get a decent candidate.
I'm not sure which Mossy you're looking at: SOME do have removable/changeable chokes.....
I HAD a benneli nova....tactical version with NO choke and traded it here on Calguns. Ehhhhhhh, it did nothing for me so I was not sad to see it go.
My Favorite is still a Remington 870 EXPRESS.....hard to beat in that price range. Mine's been out over 100 times and I beat-down on guns and this one comes back for more......I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered....

o i saw that i though it ment that the barrels were at a "set" chokebut hey...here are the mossy specs for the 500 versions: some do have removable chokes (accu set)

thanks for clearing that up
next thing for me to do is go to big 5 and irvington arms and go see which i like the feel of betterComment

Dont be afraid to walk if you dont like the feel: each one (the Rem and Mossy) each have thier good/bad aspects....Like the ONE...the ONLY thing I'd like to change on the 870 is that it have a safety like that of the mossy.......
But get yourself to a decent shop if neither feels right and see if you cant get measured for a proper fitting weapon: take those specs with ya' and see what is closest. Dont forget to buy something from the nice shop that treated ya' right and fitted ya' correctly.

for $299 i picked up a Hatsan Escort 3.5" super magnum 28" autoloader comes with 3 chokes, from turners, brand new. on sale, ive shot 200 rounds through it, the first 100 went through kinda rough, with a couple of fail to ejects and loads, but after i broke it in, it works great, and it loves wallmarts cheap federal 1 1/8 oz shells. this is my first hunting shotgun too. and for the money, you cant beat it.
i shot clay at angeles range with all 200 rounds i put through it, and i hardly missed.Looking for RPR or Precision Rifle Accessories? Check out Anarchy Outdoors. http://www.anarchyoutdoors.com?afmc=1wComment

If you can find a Beretta 390 they are inexpensive and light with low recoil. I dont know how they did not sell more of these.
I could find them for 400 all over the place a few years ago. I think they are in the 500 dollar range now.
New they are 550.00

I owned one till my nephew Grant needed a 12 gauge autoloader.

For $200. A used Highstandard. The only thing it has fixed choke. Full choke is good for Ducks.
The two hundred dollar range don't buy much now days.Comment

I shot 25 rounds at a trap stand with one aside from the cheap feel and massive felt recoil it functioned well. My friend that lent it to me seemed to like it but said it took some spring tweaks to get it to run right. I dont know what he did."I would kill for a Nobel peace prize." Steven Wright"
