Maverick 88 by mossberg

I have been shooting my friends pistol grip 12 gauge mossberg, and remington also in 12 gauge. I only own hand guns and was considering buying a shot gun but wont be using it much other then desert target shooting. after researching I came across the maverick 88, its on sale at turners for $220 the cheapest price yet for a shot gun. I have read nothing but good reviews on you tube and other forums, but it almost sounds to good to be true. has any one here ever shot or own one. I would like to hear any personal experiences either good or bad. thanks in advance.

No personal experience, but it's a solid shotgun. Basically a Mossberg 500 with a few different parts that save cost.

Another option would be the New England Firearms Pardner Pump 12 gauge. I almost bought one myself, but splurged for an 870... Anyway, that's also a solid shotgun that's low cost and from a company that's been around since the late 1800's.

I almost bought one several months back. A local shop had a barely used 88 for like $150. Not sure why I didn't buy it... Guess I just like new stuff, but it shows you can get it even cheaper if you look around.

88's not bad for the money nor is the Hawk or the Stevans... If you want something "NICE" pay the price if you wnat something cheap to screw with no issues..

I got a model 88 as my first gun when I turned 18. Has never let me down. However, a Mossberg 500 combo or Remington 870 are just a little more, and to me are worth the extra few bucks.

Ihave had one since about 2004 and have put a few rounds threw it. I want to say i have put over 5k rounds threw it and never really had any problems except for the occasional jam due to being really dirty. The 88 is the same as the Mossberg 500 except that the 500 has a top mounted saftey not like the 88's trigger guard saftey, and the 88's have only one bar that goes from the pump slide to the action the 500's have one on each side. They are great for the money, IMO

i got the maverick 88 at turners for 220. its the newer one with dual action bars. the action bars are permanently attached to the forend and the forend is not attached to a action slide tube like other mossberg 500's. i took the 88 out to the outdoor range and it shoots good. no problems at all. i was shooting hand thrown clays out the sky! fun man. worth the 220 bux. if u get bored you can change parts from a mossberg 500 to this gun essentially turning into a 500, with the safety on the trigger assembly instead of the tang. the mav88 safety is better suited for pistol grip applications than the tang safety anyway. i got a action slide tube assembly for the mossberg 500 so i can change to aftermarket forends. heres how the stock 88 forend looks:

thanks for all your suggestions. my next purchase was this 12 gauge for me or a marlin .22LR for my daughters, guess they will have to wait. lol
