    Remington 870 comments

Okay what do you guys think about this 870? I sold an 870 many years ago and would like to replace it. My auto is the 1100CM but I want a pump for the collection. Looking to use it in some local shotgun matches.

Try Big 5 Sporting Goods. They always have great deals going on there. I plan on acquiring one in time. It's a hard choice between the 870 and the Mossberg 500. But sometimes you get a "clanky" 500 so I'd stick w/ what's a safe bet and get the 870.

      Hey Ralph,
I just set-up an 870 express pump for 3 gun.
      I put on a Hogue stock/forend.
Got a 21" turkey barrel from Rem.
      Mag ext from Choate.

It performs great. Slugs at 50 yds are very accurate. ( couldn't decide on an auto. Figured i'd start with this).

They do. I'm not going the 3 gun route right now. Prado is starting up a 2 gun pistol shotgun match next month and Ironsights in Oceanside does a reload match the last thur of the month. I agree in almost any competition autos rule and I've got the auto thing covered for now. I just want a pump. Always liked the 870. Just not sure which model to go with. If I do the 3 Gun it would most likely be Heavy Metal.

          Hey Dan,
Sounds like a good setup. I figure I'd wind up with a extra barrel as well. I've actually got most the parts if I could find a 870 beater I could fix it up.

That's a very good price for a new 870. We bought a couple last year when Turners had them on sale at a similar price.

You can find used 870s for a lot less, and being 870s most used ones are still in pretty workable condition. But for a new 870, the Turners sales prices usually can't be beat in California.

The 870 is to shotguns what the Ruger 10/22 is to rimfie rifles. They are great and will last a lifetime. I have several and have never looked back.

Pistol grip only? Very bad idea.

Pistol grip stock? Matter of opinion. We love pistol grip stocks. Don't notice any difference in perceived recoil.

My 870 was my first gun (hunting, etc.) and I still have it, love it, and want another. I also have a Mossy 500 which I love. Both guns have equal round counts, never had a problem with either (except when I tried to shoot some shells with deformed cases...that's my stupidity). I think the 870 is better built than the Mossy and feels "tighter", but my Mossy is easier to load (I think) and lighter (alum. receiver).

The short of it, if I could have only one gun, it would be an 870.

                      Hey Ralph,

The 870 platform is of course track proven... They're very durable shotguns imo. If you take care of the Express HD, I'm sure that shotgun will last you a lifetime of happy shooting. The only shotguns I own are 870s, and I'm very happy with them. But then again, I prefer pump shotguns to any of the other platforms (auto, SxS, O/U etc...)

Did prices just go up? I remember Turners having a sale on those shotguns for $299 with regular price being at $319.
