Almost impulse bought a Remington 1100, should I go back?

A pawn shop here has an older Remington 1100 with surface rust that can be cleaned up and some wood that would be replaced. He said $325 but I am pretty sure I can talk him down.

It also had a 28-30" barrel with a fixed choke.
    What do you think?

For birds or clay birds, mid-$200's out-de-door tops; you're not talking rare gun here A little diy gunsmithing/learning is always good if you have the time.

For home defense it'll need a shorter barrel, usually around $100.

Pawn broker probably gave ~$100 for the gun.

Post some pics after you buy it

I wouldn't pay more than half that price in the condition you stated. A few years back I bought one in Reno in better shape than that for $75.00 and had it shipped down here. That was when I could get it DROSed for $34.00. When it was all over, it cost me $125.00. Then I sent it to Shotgun Technology and had them do their K9 treatment.

Do you want to use it for hunting? If I were you, I'd get a shotgun with interchangeable chokes, in case you need to take those real long shots.

If you want to use it for home defense purposes, it likely has a magazine block to comply with the federali hunting regulations, and the barrel is too long. Also, it is a semi-automatic which, even if it is a real reliable gun, may jam on you when you need it most. So basically, you've got an unwieldy 2+1 capacity gun with surface rust and a bad stock.

Personally, I'd stay away and buy a good quality pump gun, which you could likely get new for the same price.

Yeah this shotgun would be for hunting and skeet/trap.

I already have a pump gun for these, but was just wanting one in semi-auto. I will check out the gun show next weekend (which is always a bust) and if nothing I will offer something pretty low and if that deal fails there is no loss and I will find something else.

So does anyone have a good Semi-auto for sale relatively cheap?

I've bought 2 used 1100s - a 12 gauge with a plain barrel for $260 and a 20 gauge with a ribbed barrel for $350. Both were in beautiful condition, both metal and wood - the 20 gauge looked like it may have never been shot.

Now, I looked around for some time before stumbling on these fine deals, but since I wasn't in a hurry, it was no problem. I wasn't actually looking for shotguns, just checking out the gun shops, and happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Keep your eyes open and hit the good shops on a regular basis, and something'll show up.

Keep in mind Remington made "millions" of 1100's. They're always out there for sale.
