Minimum barrel length for a Rem 1100 ??

My dilema

I have a Rem 1100 that I used to use in 3 gun matches. I'm retireing it to be a self defence gun and would like it a little shorter.
Currently the OA length is about 25"
Thats 21 1/2" barrel and a 4" Zapperelli Compensator with about a 1/2" of the barrel buried in the comp. (that I want to reuse)
It has a rib so my options are limited to the stanctions for the rib. Allowing for a 1/2" buried in the comp I have 3 choices
15 1/2", 17", or 19 1/2" plus another 4" for the comp
Will the gun still be able to function reliably with either of those 3 barrel lengths? I would prefer the 17" or even less if possible. Has anyone cut them that short and it still worked ok? I'll prob have #1 buck and slugs as ammo

You should not cut down the barrel of a Remington semi-auto. The gas orifice size is determined by the barrel length and intended load of the barrel. Change that and you will have function issue.


You best bet is to forget the added on mess and simply get an 18.5" barrel. They only make two for the 1100 and it is the 18.5" IC Bs Tactical Black / part number 400335 and retails from Remington for $172. And, 18.5" IC BS Tactical Green / part number243884 and retails for $182 from Remington. These barrels are designed for heavy load such as buck shot and slugs.

You did not go to the Remington parts list as they are there. You most likely made the same mistake most guys make and went to the Country Store. That is not the parts list. find the Word "suport" at the top of the page of the Remington web site. Click on that and in the drop box click on Parts. When that page comes up download the Remington Parts list in PDF and you will see the barrels. Or simply call 800-243-9700 and follow the prompts to parts and order by the part number I gave you.
