    Thunder Ranch 500 ext. tube

Is there an extension available for the 500 to go from 5+1 to either 6 or 7+1? I was looking at the Thunder Ranch vs getting an 870 for two main reasons on the Mossberg. First the hi-viz front sight vs the bead sight on the Rem. Second the shortened stock/lop. I like both of these on the Mossberg. The receiver is also drilled and tapped on the Mossberg where the 870 isn't. Unless I missed it somewhere I can't seem to find if you can add a 1 or 2rd extension. The 870s I've seen at Big5 already have 6+1 but not the drilled/tapped receiver and only the bead sight. Could I mask the barrel and throw some bright orange paint on the bead and call it good? Either gun is gonna get Cerakoted once it gets home. Again this is the Mossberg Thunder Ranch 500 specifically I'm looking to buy. If not an 870 at Big5.Thanks in advance for your help!!

Mossberg 500 does not use an add on extension tube. If you want more capacity you have to change out the mag tube and buy a barrel with the lug forward at the muzzle to match the mag tube. There is a DIY kit available to do that job with mag tube, spring and barrel. Brownell's sells it.

If you buy a Mossberg and put some type of Ghost Ring Sight on the receiver, you would want to put a ramp on up front to go with it. There are several options for that. Unless you plan on shooting a bunch of slugs at longer distances I recommend staying with the plain bead by itself.

Big Dog is correct, the mag tube extension is not workable on the Thunder Ranch 500. You could however put an extension on this type of 500 or 590A1 barrel and mag tube.

That thing looks uncomfortable to shoot.

After checking one out again at Turners in Chino I went ahead and got one. 5+1 is enough..and for HD if I need more than that I think I have bigger problems. It's also got an integrated 3-rail pump for mounting accessories which is kinda nice. The wife held it too and was much more comfortable shouldering it vs the 870s longer lop..if she's cool holding it then that works for me especially if she ever has to break it out in the middle of the night. She's shot 00 and slugs out of a 590..she didn't care too much for the overall length so she felt this would be a better fit. 10 day wait and off to be Cerakoted. Only thing left will be to add a Mesa 6rd shell holder..it already comes with a basic sling. Thanks to all for your input.

            500

You could also try some speed loaders, the kind Blue Press offers. With a pump, I've seen alot of fast shooters and reloads with these.

You are definitely correct that it will be enough, and with a side saddle, it'll be great. No problem, hope you have a fun time with your new shotgun!
