Hey,
Im purchasing a mossberg 500 tactical persuader 18.5in comes with carr 6point stock and heat shield are you legaly allowed to remove the little wooden dowl rod that prevents you from having more then 3 rounds?

I haven't purchased it yet but I got to mess around with one before I left. and after doing research and then watching a video on youtube.

it has a small wooden rod with like to big rubber o-rings to keep it in place I thought it was pretty funny myself. gave me good chuckle.

All shotguns are shipped with the 3 shell plug in all 50 states. Some are pre-installed, some, like my 870 are a seperate plastic dowell in the carton. The requirement is part of the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918.

It only has to be installed when hunting migratory birds i.e. ducks, geese etc. (some states require it for ALL bird hunting i.e. pheasant, dove etc. and migratory waterfowl).

If you install an extended magazine, simply cut a new wood dowell to slip inside the mag spring to allow only 2 in the mag and you're good to go.

Well, being Texas, the last free state, maybe it's not required except on hunting guns? I'm not a lawyer but anybody can search the migratory bird act on google.

I guess mossberg doesn't include them on special purpose/combat shotguns, since I didn't get one.

BTW, what is the reason of 3 shots? Give birds a fair chance?

Mine came with one on my HR pardner pump. Great shotgun btw for the price.

it was an arbitrary # devised by the gov of the time to promote fair chase..Back in the days of market hunting, you could use any gun, down to a 2 guage to flock shoot birds thereby getting as many as you wanted.. it decimated populations, obviously. They was about the time they restricted you to a 10 gauge with only a 3 round capacity.

There are currently some areas in other states that allow a special snow goose hunt where you can use electronic calling and an unplugged shotgun with no limits to try to knock down the very overpopulated snow goose.. I think Colorado is one such state.
