Boresnake at the Range Cleaning Questions?

When I got to the range today I immediately ran my clean 12 GA borensnake through my shotgun bore as suggested by some really helpful guys on the rimfire forum when I asked some cleaning questions. After getting done with clay shooting for the afternoon (~100 rounds) I ran the boresnake through before storing the shotgun (as I had been doing this on all my previous trips=boresnake immediately after shooting). Should I not have done this?...ran the once used boresnake (beginning of session) through the barrel at the end of the session? Boresnake was run without solvent/lube each time.

My response to your post in the other thread:

I think you are worrying way too much.... just go out and shoot the thing.

I don't clean my shotgun that much, and I don't do anything before or after shooting...

After around 500-1000 rounds ill take the entire thing apart and do a solid cleaning.

You sir and an over cleaner. Its good to maintain your weapons, but there is such a thing as too often.

Yep, I shoot a Browning o/u. After about five hundred rounds or so I'll spray some Rem Oil down the bore and run a bore snake threw it, then I wipe down the outside with a soft cloth and Rem Oil.

        That's it.

P.S. I've used my bore snake hundres of times without washing it.

I see folks who clean more than shoot. It's a shotgun, not a Rolex. Enjoy it!

I do nothing more before each squad than check my choke tube(s) for seating and a quick overall visual inspection, including making sure the bore(s) aren't obstructed.

The 1100 I clean every 250 rounds but only because otherwise the action bar and pistons just get gunky and the gun will eventually not run well. The o/u, pumps and single barrels are whenever I get around to them. A quick pass with a bore snake or a patch with a bit of CLP on it after shooting and keep the exterior surfaces wiped down and lightly oiled is all I find I need to do.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Over cleaner...hmm all I've ever done so far is run a boresnake through my barrel so I don't know if I'm one yet but I do like tapping the experience of this thread for all my cleaning questions as with a surgical residency on the horizon and our first baby on the way they will have to last a long time so if cleaning has a slight chance of increasing there performance or longevity I'll do it! Except im finding out that the 10/22 likes to run dirty so I think I'm going to...not clean it...as my time efficiency is as important as my cost effectiveness due to my current life situation.

Watch out, using your boresnake to much may destroy the rifling in the barrel!

dude, you shoot bird shot, slugs and 00 at 1300 ft/s. Your boresnake isn't gonna do anything bad to your smooth bore barrel.
