Issue with Mossberg 500 - Locking up after shooting?

This is a Mossberg 500 with the knoxx stock. This happened with the preivous stock as well.

So with a round in the chamber and me firing a round, I would generally proceed to pump and fire again right? Well, what happens is that it kind of locks up preventing me from releasing the slide or "pump"ing it. I would then have to press teh slide release and eject the round.

It seems it's b/c I'm putting some extra load on the slide as i fire. The only way I can seem to prevent this now is to very consciously loosely hold the handle as i fire, even then it doesn't work all the time.

does it do it if you dry fire it rapidly ? there could be some bur or chunk of casting catching something have you fieldstriped it and inspected the bolt and trigger mech?

If you are pulling back on the fore-end when you fire it will remain locked and you will have to push forward before you can pull the fore-end back.

You can use a "push pull" hold, get used to having to make that forward impulse before working the action, or try to maintain a neutral grip on the fore-end.

If it didn't lock it would come out of battery in recoil, possibly earlier than you would want it to.

Does it happen on initial extraction (when the shell is un-corked from the chamber). AMMO or polish chamber. Will feel sticky and hangy.

Action binding up. As he said. Also your not twisting pump handle and tweeking push/pull rods.

My Mossy 500 will cycle and eject empty shell if the handle is not held (shooting it like a pistol). Try this and see if you still are locked up.

+1 this is the reason I don't like my 590. My Winnie 1300 is butter smooth.
