opinions on a shotgun

Jut a little bit higher than $800, the Browning Gold Fusion should work well for you.

I have a lightweight 20ga Montefeltro.
If I ever went after dove & quail, this is what I would be carrying.

In the $800 range, it's hard to beat a Remington 11-87. They're more flexible than the 1100, which is also a great gun, but is pickier about ammo power. The 11-87 will shoot target loads to magnums with no problems, while an 1100 generally needs to be set up for one or the other (but they typically cost less, too).

The Beretta 391 is also a great gun - probably better overall than the 11-87 - and if you can find a nice one for $800, jump on it. If you can find a nice SBE for that much, jump faster.

You can sometimes find Browning Gold Hunter models for under $800.. I know a few people who did.. I paid.. well, a bit over that a few years back, but I'm still using it for clays and critters.

I have heard nothing but good things about the Rem 1100. Dont think you can go wrong with that choice.
