I have an opportunity to purchase this gun and the seller has said "What's your idea of a fair price?" I respect the guy and do not want to insult him, but I also don't want to pay retail. It's the engraved model and the blue/wood furniture are impeccable.

Is he willing to take the gun to a FFL to do a private party transfer? As for only 50 rounds being through it, who is insulting who's intelligence? Have you asked him why he is selling it and what he paid for it?

You can buy one NIB on GunsAmerica for $999 and a used 12 gauge in excellent condition for $750. If his anserws to all the above are satisfactory, offer him $750; $800 tops.
