Yes, another Mossberg 930 SPX thread

Eventually I will be getting one and I read some of the QC stuff, but I still had questions. How do I tell a 1st gen from the new gens and how many gens are there? How do I check if the finish is good to go? They say some came with canted sights and I don't have a clue what that means. I would like to do as much research before the time comes. I read some threads on Mossberg Owners, but all the stuff they mention is like 3rd language with no pictures. Also, I've read about the different length barrels. How many different lengths do they have and what would be best for home defense? I'm assuming short? Is the last generation SPX the better of all the gens?

Another thing... My cousin has a brand new 930 SPX that he bought about a year ago and he still has not fired it. He said he might be willing to sell it and I was wondering what a fair price would be to offer. I spoke to him today and I jokingly said $550 and he laughed. LOL, I may check it out over this coming weekend so I need to know exactly what and how to check these things.

      Try this for starters http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...ossberg+930spx

Good luck, and I think $550 for your friends "used" gun is reasonable if it's the non-pistol grip model $600 if pistol grip.

Last generation SPX will be identifiable by it's round bolt/charging handle. I have a gen 2 with improved gas system but same flat handle.
I had problems with my first 930SPX and Mossberg replaced it. The new gun has 5 to 600 rounds through it (bird, buck and slugs) and hasn't had a single hiccup right out of the box. From the Winchester Universal to premium tactical loads the 930SPX functions.

I'm glad Mossberg stands behind their product, they replaced mine with another new one.

When they go on sale, I usually see them between $549-599 for the non-PG one

Your friend is high is he thinks it's worth much more than that. $550 is more than fair.

I bought a 930 tactical used two years ago for $350 shipped off gunbroker so deals can be had for sure.

I've put 50 rounds or so of xm127 federal buckshot, a few boxes of bird, and some cut shells loaded one at a time. Only issue I had was the lift for the floor plate, got stuck on the side of the floor plate after the first shell I ever fired.

Never had another issue. Bought mine new, no pistol grip, just under 700 out the door on sale at turners.
