Tell me about your Saiga?

All of a sudden, I decided that right now would be an opportune time to buy a Saiga 12. Can you tell me about yours? What do you use it for, is it fun to shoot? The idea of an AK-47 that shoots 12 ga. just appeals to me.

The rear sight is the hardest piece of work I have done on a gun to remove....actually I gave up and sanded...(didnt work)..then just cut the damn thing off to fit Chaos rails.

Technically, no hi-cap restrictions on fixed-mag shotguns. Legally obtaining a 10+ shotgun mag is another issue, however.

I just shoot clays with mine. Its been extremely reliable after I added an additional gas port and broke the whole gun in. That's an adjustable choke on the end.

I had to send mine to get the gas ports opened.
The spring that holds the bolt lock down comes off all the fing time and is an hour + job to fix even after making a tool. I tried notching it and bending the spring and the damn thing still come off.. Other then that its awesome and a-lot of fun to bump fire.

To tell you the truth I just set it to modified choke and leave it like that I just go shoot clays with some buddies informally. It definitely helps keep your pattern tighter when you want it to though.

I can't wait to show up at the Sun Mountain Gun Club to shoot some trap with my Saiga. It will be worth it just to see the looks of disgust and revulsion on the faces of the all of the 70 year old guys with Perazzis. ;-)

I don't know guys, I have been researching the Saiga, it seems like there are a lot of pluses and minuses. I read a review from a guy who bought one for three-gun, as did his buddy. They both ended up hating the Saigas and each, without verification of the other, ended up selling after a few months.

I am very gunsmithing deficient so I would have to buy the Saiga for around $700.00, then ship it off to one of the shops that does all of the gas system and trigger work. Now we are at $1,100.00 to $2,000.00, depending on how crazy you want to get with it. Just not sure if it is worth it for a fun gun. I won't be using it for home defense, just for fun at the range and occasional trap.

Do they run well if you keep them in the sporter configuration? I read that the trigger in that configuration is pretty terrible, sights are close to useless? It seems like this gun will only sing if you really put some work into it.
