Caring for Rem 870 wood stock?

I recently purchased a newer used Rem 870 that is in what appears to be unfired shape. It gets out of jail on Friday evening.

The wood stock is clean but looked a little dry. It doesn't need refinishing. What do you suggest I use to maintain the stock? A wax, lemon oil, etc.?

Unless this is a high end Trap model with $300 engraved stocks take something and wack the hell out of the stock to put a big old ding in it. This way you have that first mar out of the way and can enjoy shooting the weapon. The 870 is the "Grunt" of the shotgun world. This is not a collectors piece, wall hanger or safe queen. This weapon is made shoot a few hundred thousand times in your life time and still hand down to your kids to keep shooting.

Really guys, waxing a laminated 870 stock or even the hardwood police stock is like taking a Pig to the Pet Groomers.

Definately bought as a grunt. I bought it for $199 for Target, hunting and HD, and plan to shoot the heck out of it. I was lucky to find it in great shape instead of paying $400 for a new one but I'm not quite ready to abuse it. It will get its dings with use. I just want to know what people use to care for the wood stocks.

By the way, thanks for the videos and how to's on your website. I plan to try your chamber and bore tools.

Cool beans, you are dead on as for what these weapons are for. I issued myself a new out of the box 870P once. First training day I was babying the thing all day then my first run during entry drills I took a spill (I was a Captain and Team Leader so no one laughed) and the stock and I caught the corner of brick wall in the kill house. Nice beauty mark that left on both of us. I then stopped worring about that new P model and focused on the training and trying not to look like an idiot sliding across the floor into a wall in front of my Team.

If it's the basic laminated Express stock, there's not much to do to it other than don't worry about it. A quick rub with a bit of tung oil about once every 15 years or so will do nicely.

It appears to be a solid wood stock and not laminated. I plan to enjoy it!
