So, I got my 590 a few weeks ago. I added a pistol grip stock. Adding the pistol grip made it very awkward to release the action to load a round in the chamber. I had to change my grip and hold the shotgun in an awkward position. Me search through the web for a replacement extended action release yielded no results. So I jumped on midway and ordered an extra OEM action release lever and modified it myself. Now I can easily release the action without changing my grip on the shotgun. I am very happy with the results. I will probably be looking for a manufacturer to make these for sale. This would fit the 500 as well... is there a market for this??

Hmm. I think most people are more annoyed with the safety selector when it comes to mossberg's with a pistol grip rather than the release. However that does look nice.Need Pest Control? Message me!

Good ol' American ingenuity! Excellent job but as jdewolf said, its more about the safety. However, it does eliminate one of the cons of having a pistol grip on the Mossberg. None-the-less good job manBounce a ball in Football that's a fumble. Baseball, no bouncing at all. Bounce a ball in Hockey, well that's a mandatory drug test right there...Comment

i'd buy one. i honestly don't think the safety is that much trouble..Comment

Why would you need to use the release in any time-critical situation? Are you storing the gun with the chamber empty and the magazine full?"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure."

I could see where having that extended release would make the use of the pistol grip easier. I like that better than shifting your grip to release it. I bet there is a market for it.Comment

+1 to those. Nice job, but not exactly something I need. I decided to use the safety with a traditional stock for my HD gun. Maybe on my range toy 500, but since it's a range toy, it's not necessary.Comment

I like your idea...kudos. Your potential market would be limited to Tactical/HD Mossy 500/590 owners that want to run a pistol grip setup. I know I would've loved one of those during my last tactical shotgun class! You might be able to make a buck or two!
To answer some Q's from the other posts: A few reasons you might need to hit the slide release would be a chamber check, select slug exchanges, or clearing malfunctions. 500's with pistol grips make that hard to do while maintaining a firing grip.
I would do some research/testing to make sure that your thumb can't inadvertently hit that release when you don't mean to...that would be no bueno.
good luck!Comment
