Remington 870

I guess yesterday I wrote a thread and I must not have been very clear in what I said. I am going to purchase a Remington 870 Express Synthetic stock shotgun.
I would like to mount a light on it. It will be used mainly for home defense but I would like to take it to the range and get used to shooting it.
I am asking for your expertise and that is one reason that I belong to this forum. I know there are many ways to mount a flashlight to a shotgun. Duct tape being the easiest and the cheapest. I was thinking of mounting one to the front mag extension on a tri-rail picatinny rail or mounting it to the forend via a picatinny adapter.Have any of you used the Elzetta flashlight mount and if you have ,your thoughts and advice about this product. Any thoughts or suggestions would be nice,this is the second time I have posted on this forum.

The reason no one responded is because (no offense to you) there are people who don't know these sort of things asking the same question every week or so. Naturally, some people get tired of dealing with that. That, and like you said, your question was a little vague.

I would share more, but I have a rail forend on my shotgun, and can't speak for any of the things you're interested in. All else I know is that many rail clamps for the barrel of mag tube will do the job perfectly well.

I use Elzetta because the mount works. There are no rails and and rings needed to mount the light and that is that much less for Mr. Murphy to screw with at the worst of times. The price is right and it is very well made.

As you wish to use this for home defense, surefire forearm weapon light is the only way to go. I understand that they are very expensive but you cannot put a price on you, your loved ones and your property.

You didn't get any responses because you didn't specify what type of light you were planning on using, even though a couple of us asked the question.

As for the Elzetta mount, it is a good, solid mount. Get the version with the thumbscrew, so that you can easily remove the light without having to first take off the mount. And, also buy the terrific Elzetta light.

I have the Elzetta without the thumb screw. AFAIK you don't need to remove the mount to remove the flashlight. Depending on what flashlight you get, you just need to loosing the bottom middle screw and slide the flashlight out. All the thumbscrew does is remove the need to have an allen wrench or other similar tool on your person. Is it worth the extra $4 or whatever it is? No clue. If you get something like certain Fenix flashlights, say the TK-15, and leave on the "tactical" ring on, it wont make a difference because you have to remove all five screws on the flashlight side regardless of thumbscrew. Again, that just means you use an allen wrench.

You do need to be careful when tightening the screws because it is still a plastic material. The flange on mine broke when I overtightened one of the screws.
