browsing through barrels for my mossy 500 and saw their muzzleloader barrel and it got me thinking....would this be a good investment instead of buying a separate black powder muzzleloader??? What about as a back-up barrel for SHTF hunting situations?? Is there really any good use for this $135 thingy????

Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

Sounds interesting. Does it use shotgun primers to fire the blackpowder charge? Try one out and write up a review.

Used one for years. Bought mine back in 2002 I think it was. Maybe 03. Lord, maybe it was 99. No real idea now. I've been writing on them and suggesting them ever since. It's a solid performing barrel. Shoots straighter than I can. Just as good as any purpose-designed muzzleloader I've ever used, even better than some. I use 250gr Lee REAL bullets, my own lube formula (bacon fat/pork chop drippings, or bear grease mixed with some beeswax) and have never had a misfire. It uses 209 primers and they're common, hot, and they burn clean.
You cap it through the ejection port, and that's the only downside to me. Large, creaky fingers. Built my own capper from brass tubing and have never looked back. The inside the receiver 209 primer makes the gun totally weatherproof when loaded, and that's a big plus.
Back then, I think I had maybe three Mossbergs that I used regularly. Maybe four. I was switching that barrel off and on on a wooden 500A that I also used as my slug gun. I eventually picked up another and popped that barrel onto it for good as my muzzleloader gun. Haven't used it in years now, though. I don't get time to really shoot as much as I would like.

I have been looking into finally buying a 12 gauge pump. Ive determined that the Mossberg 500 is the one for me. I like the simplicity, reliability, and durability and Love the price. Im probably going to get the 28" and 18.5" barrel combo (around $315) so I will have a hunting barrel and...
seems to be more questions on this than answers(a quick google search of the barrel). a range report would be greatly appreciated!

I have one and its fun to shoot, black powder is a fun change, especially when at a range and an RSO is like WTF when you crank off a shot and they are expecting a shotshell.
Havent tried hunting with it but would like to. The main problem with it is that you need to break down the shotgun completely once you are done and clean everything since pyrodex is corrosive. If you do a lot of muzzleloader hunting and you like Mossberg 500s is a good buy so you can have familiarity with the platform.sigpicComment

is there any non-corrosive options for this??sigpic

I was thinking of getting this, but a CVA Optima was $150 at Walmart after muzzle loader season finished.Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.
