    Mossberg 500 Reassembly Problems

    Hello,

First off, I am an idiot. I took down the 500 to do a detail strip and I can't get the action to cycle properly. I believe everything is in its place according to all the videos I've watched.

The problem I am having is that after I install the bolt, bolt carrier and trigger group, I cannot rack the slide all the way back. Something is binding on the trigger group and I don't want to force it. The action will come about halfway back and then stop.

One thing I did do was pull the trigger when the group was out of the gun which I found out later is a no no. Anyway, i reset the trigger manually before trying to reassemble the gun. Still nothing.

If there is anyone in the East Bay around Oakland/Berkeley that can help, it would be greatly appreciated. I can trade for ammo or hook you up with some cash.

    Thanks for reading,
    Shooter

Take it apart again. I have a feeling that you may have not put the shell elevator back correctly.

When you're putting it back together:
    1. Shell elevator in first
    2. put bolt in
    3. put the pump arm in
    4. make sure the dual bars are in the right place, then snap in the part (cant remember its name) that links the action bars to the bolt.
    5. place the interrupter and cartidge stop
    6.Put in trigger group
    7. Snap the in pin
    8. Happy camper

Take a look at this video:

Bounce a ball in Football that's a fumble. Baseball, no bouncing at all. Bounce a ball in Hockey, well that's a mandatory drug test right there...

      This^

Take it apart & try again. In fact, do it several times until you're comfortable with it.

I watched several different U-Tube vids on this. You will learn different stuff from each. Pay special attention to the bolt & action bar alignment when putting it back together. Was teaching my son how to clean it and he actually got it assembled without those pieces properly engaged. The action would only cycle half way.

Dont sweat it, you'll get it.

This is so frustrating....nothing is working. aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Ok, I cracked a beer. But seriously WTF. I've followed the vids. I've read up. I'm wondering if my pulling the trigger with the FCG out of the gun has altered it so that it won't seat now.

I am able to get the FCG into the gun when I run the pump all the way forward so it clears the Bolt and Carrier. Trying to install the FCG the way Shellslinger's vid shows with the Bolt back, I haven't been able to seat the group all the way.

Again, thanks. Let my misery be a lesson. Don't pull the darn trigger when the parts are out of the gun.
