How to remove rust/corrosion from shotgun?

Much to my horror I noticed that my shotgun barrel had a brown rust/corrosion buildup all along the outside of the barrel, I believe it was caused by the metal piece I clamped to the end that was holding a flashlight.

I was able to clean off most of the rust/corrosion with standard cleaning oil but it still feels rough and if you look closely enough a little of the corrosion is still there.

What should I use to get rid of the tough remnants?

Try 0000 steel wool and LOTS of oil. It won't take off the blue, but it will eat the rust.

I have the same issue after Duck season. My gun takes a beating during this time. I use Kroil and 0000 steel wool. Apply Kroil to surface very heavy let sit over night. Come back next day if surface is dry apply more Kroil and start working the area with steel

I use this on my surplus rifles to remove bits of rust.

Another vote for bronze wool and lots of oil. Bronze will have the least chance of scratching your finish.

You can always use copper wool if steel is too harsh and can't find bronze wool

More rust came back so I have now ordered some bronze wool & some kroil oil.

Paint thinner, Kerosene, any light petroleum solvent/penetrant; but Kroil is the best.

I have read about a reverse rust process online. Im guessing its similar to the outers foul out system. In a nutshell, you reverse plate the rust from the steel.

                        rust

remington eezox......let soak then scrub with bronze brush...easy does it....i use rig grease daily on guns in duck blinds..and when storing in safe....used rig to fill in under rib in salt ponds on bay...choke tubes and 0/u hinge pins as well....now that rust has started always keep greased...or ceramacote or duracote....rust really sucks...good luck....
