Mossberg ghost ring sights

So, I'm considering putting a ghost ring on my Mossy 500 (20" barrel, 7+1) and while looking for one I came across the factory setup, like the 590s have. Not too expensive, probably work well, but they say that gunsmithing is required. What exactly has to be done to mount these things on my farm defense gun? Looks like the rear can be mounted using the already tapped holes on the reciever, but the front sight has to be mounted some other way. How, and will a gunsmith charge me up the pooper for it? Before I found my 590 SP (not A1) with the ghost rings/parked at a local pawn shop for $190, I had started my dros @ Big 5 for the 590 with heat shield, blued, bayo lug and standard brass bead sight. I was planning on putting ghost rings on, so I did the leg work. Ghost rings from Mossberg:~$60 plus shipping. I believe a local smith was willing to do it for $80. The rear you can install yourself, the front needs to be silver soldered on there, and done right. A couple of smiths wouldn't touch it.

Needless to say I canceled my dros, and bought the 590 SP. Lost $30, but saved $$$ in the end for what I wanted in a shotgun. And I love my 590 with ghost rings.

DO NOT get the heat shield with the ghost rings on there.

Think also about whether you really want GS sights. I have two benelli m1 s90s. one is a standard m1s90, with rifle notch sights. the other has the expensive adjustable GS.

both are PG'ed, with the RS in 5rnd and GS in 7rnd (HK non922R model). all parts factory. I also have two sets of surefire foreends.

Ultimately, I removed the surefire, removed the PG, and kept the 7rnd on the non-gs RS model.

I found that my speed of acquisition was vastly improved over the GS during shoot/no shoot drills and no-warning clay shoots. For the S/NS I used cardboard cutouts - a friend would call "black" or "red" and I would shoot the appropriate color silhouettes. for the clay shoots i would just have the SG at the ready and try to hit the clays as they come out, without a pull call.

here's my completely personal review:

surefire: very nice but not useful for myself. reliability is an issue when using less than full power rounds and increases weight of firearm significantly.

PG grip: recoil goes into hand rather than shoulder. hand is not a good recoil reducer. PG protrudes uncomforably at times.

GS: sights are much slower to acquire than RS.
