    Foreend Flashlight

I am looking to put a flashlight on the forend of my Mossberg 590A1. It has picatinny rails on the bottom and sides of the forend. Suggestions? Things to be concerned with?

There are many options. If you're wondering what to get, what matters is your price range. It's a good general rule to buy the highest quality you can afford. I have a Mako tri-rail forend with a Streamlight TLR-1 on the left rail on my 590A1, and I love it. Things to be concerned with? Other than a sling getting in the way, there shouldn't really be any issues.

I would like to keep it under $150.

TLR-1 will absolutely stand up to the 12ga recoil. Will mount to your pistol if you have a rail too.

I operate it with my thumb, as my hands are a touch smallish. Bear, with that budget, you can do anything, pretty much. Just browse through these results and you'll see quite a few different options in that budget. https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C...w=1280&bih=899

are you sold on the foreend solution? i tried doing the same, but a) i couldn't find a railed foreend that i found comfortable to grasp, and b) racking the slide changed the illumination more than i liked. i went with a clamp mount (the L&M model) near the end of the barrel.

I use cdmgear light mount on my Moss 500 with the TLR-1. I prefer the light NOT mounted on the forend. For me,, just gets in the way.

Make sure you don't put too much stuff (weight) up there.
Practice shooting it with the light mounted and on for QA.
I looked at the forend thing also, but decided I wanted to keep the wood. This is my 870. Works great with thumb. Not heavy.

it works for me, i rack it before i switch it on, gives the other guy some pause, and if i have to rack it again, well that is a different situation, but it does have the momentary, and "on" selection

I like that. What grip is that. So much nicer than the sharp angled pistol grips that are so uncomfortable. That grip has a nice angle that concedes the fact that your wrist can only contort so far.

It's like a sawed stock without the ugliness.

                          I haven't used a TLR-1 on a shotgun, but its absolutely a quality light.
