    Charles Daly pump shotgun

I'm in the market for a pump shotgun in the $200 price range. I know all about your standard pump shotguns--the Remington 870, the Mossberg 500 and 590, the Ithaca model 37, the Winchester 1300. However, I'm drawn heavily to the police riot gun/police magnum set-up. I'm looking for the 18-20" barrel, 4 or 5 rd tube, and iron sights rather than just the front bead. It seems like the Remington Police Magnum is a bit out of my range, as are the old Ithaca 37s. But I stumbled upon the Charles Daly pump shotguns this morning, and they seem to all be about $200. In fact, there is a model that seems to fulfill my specifications perfectly for only $206. So, are Charles Daly shotguns any good? Anyone have any experience with them at all?

I bought one of the Big 5 Charles Daly pump shotguns.
Out of the box, the barrel would not fit into the reciever. There was a "burr" that was catching and I ended up Dremeling a part on the barrel fit into the reciever. Now that its in, I actually like the shotgun and how it handles. I'm sure you can find other shotguns for just a little bit more $, but if you like the looks of the Daly and willing possibly to do some work, then its a decent shotgun for not much money.

The Marlin H&R Pardner Protector is a very well made HD shotgun as good or better than the Remington 870 Express on some things. They are made of all steel with a cast metal trigger guard and are drilled and tapped for scope mount. They hold five in the tube and six if you drill out the mag tube dimples and only use the spring and follower. They are a copy of the Remington 870 Express so all of the same accessories will fit them: stocks & forends, shell carriers, Vang tactical safety and mag tube ext but because of the barrel setup the extensions will either be to long or to short. The 870 barrels will not fit. They sale for around $180.

They are made in China but I say, so what, so is everything we use, eat and depend on in daily lives.

Used 870's are regularly showing up at $175~$225.

Why settle? Outside of an 870 used in trap shooting, the gun will outlast you and your kids.
