Got bit by the Shotgun bug!!!

Was looking over my little gun collection last week and notice my only one shotgun, It's a Rem 11-87 Police model....notice how well made this little gem was...it's my primary Home defense gun..so I've always designated it as a utility gun and really never gave it more thought..Haven't even shot it...

I chose the 11-87P because it's gas driven, so you don't have to shoulder it to empty the tupe.. so basically my wife can use it.

Anyways, I bought another 11-87P and today traded on of my safe queen for a Beretta 1201FP..

I think in a defensive situation a Shotgun would be better than a M1 Carbine or 1911, though both are great choices.. so having more than one is not a bad idea

I don't know if you want a pump, but Big 5 has the Remington Security 7 on sale for 269.99 after rebate. That is what I use for home defense.

What? I hope I misread that? If I did, ignore the following. If I didn't:

The 1187 is an outstanding shotgun. An outstanding choice for HD even... but nothing is so flawless as to be designated a HD gun without having ever been shot. And you mention it being something your wife could use if need be? True. And good on you for considering that. But take her out and teach her to use it! At least break it in and see what types of loads it does and does not like. The worst time to find that your autoloader won't cycle light load shot or isn't functioning is when there is someone down the hall and the first round didn't do the job.

I know,it's bad not testing or firing it yet, it's basically new in box! But in defense, my wife is trained on the Browning Hipower and she has had lots of practice on it. I'll make the time to break it in in the next couple of weeks

I'm into semi now, but if I go pump, for me , my first choice is either the 590A1 or 870P, second would be the Win 1300 or Mossberg 500... any of these have lots of aftermarket upgrades

I like pump shot guns, because they are generaly more reliable. Auto guns (gas operated) can be ammo and sholder-ing finicky and on low pressure tactical ammo fail to cycle properly. I do have a blast (sorry for the gunn punn) with my Remington Model 11 (not the 1100) modeled on the BAR auto shot gun. The blow back and recoiling barrel are fun. Butt my Model 11 is limited to low pressure 2 3/4 rounds.

My mother's home defence weapon was a single shot shatgun 12 gauge with a outside hammer. Easy to operate and easy to keep loaded (no mag springs). But of course single and doubled barrels have a ammo capacity issue. But execelent to train on.

I am going to get a Remington Spartin in 12 gauge and put smallesh sights on it. It looks like a very well made gun for the $. My only semi problem with it is it has an internal hammer. I know there is two camps of thought on that too.

But in my opinion, if one is limited to one gun (ok 15 guns) the shot 12 gauge shotgun in probably my first purchase. It is it's versatility that is fantastic. You can plaster sparrows to mooose with the fire arm just change the ammo.

Also this store only had a 20 gauge and will only buy a 12 gauge because of the selection of ammo and I don't want any different ammo in the house.
Why I owned a cute 16 gauge but got the shells mixed up. A 16 gauge shell will dropp into the barell enough that the next 12 gauge round will chamber and when you pull the trigger BAD NEWS - boomy boomy. I traded it off shells and all - no more probs.

I like the look and think it would be better the sights. I don't thenk Remington will put a bayonette lug on there for me. So maybe a soviet foldable spike or French MAS ehpee should mount. Also an old civil war style triangle might clamp on nicely.
