Mossberg shooting high, what to check

I bought the mossberg of a forum member. Had a green fiber front sight installed and i had put on an accessory rail for some sort of optic.

First time out to the range i fired a couple slugs and it blew the front sight off; looked like the threads were too long.

Took another couple shots and all were much higher than where i was aiming (@25 yards). Didn't think much of it so i took it home, cleaned it up and installed the brass bead front sight.

Took it out last week to finish off the box of slugs and again WAY higher than i was aiming. One of the large round targets you usually get at the range, 2' tall at least, i was aiming at the bottom of the target and just kissed the top of the target. Am i doing something wrong? This was benched, on sandbags, at 50 yards.

Thats what i thought to begin with and took off the rail after the first outing. Its now all stock aside from the folding stock and that will be replaced soon.

For reference, im aiming down the barrel so that the round bead is centered and flat as i look down the receiver, there is no rear sight.

Slugs can be a pain out of a smooth barrel. I've seen them shoot that high before but it's usually out at 50 yards. What is a real pain is when they are high AND off to the side a good distance...
Try a few different brands and also try some reduced recoil slugs. They should come in a bit lower.

What type of barrel do you have? Vent rib? Choked? You can try messing with chokes if you got em.

        Take care,
        Dave

Its the stock 18.5 smooth bore barrel. For the most part they're relatively centered and all at the same height if i aim at the same point at the bottom of the target.

Its fun to punch holes in paper but if someone breaks in, i don't want to have to aim at the groin to get a good center mass shot.

I have the same issue with mine, I think I'm not holding the front bead properly. With no rear sight it can be a pain when shooting slugs.
