I just bought a Mossberg 12g Shotgun from Turners
It is a Silver Reserve Over/Under 12/28''/3''
@ $559.99
Out the Door = $633.38
I had a $25 gift certificate and a buck in my wallet, so it was really only $607.78


anyone own this gun, and what are your thoughts? When I held it in the store it seemed really well balanced and very light. I loved it from just holding it

It's OK, for what it it is. I got mine at Big 5 for about 450 otd.

You might check out thehighroad gun forum, someone was saying something about the firing pins breaking. I think it was dry firing the action when it was open and then shutting the barrels.

Little high priced IMO. Turners is too expensive. I wont tell you hopw much i paid for mine cause youll wanna hit me. Personally I love it. It gets a little heavy carrying it all day and no sling but overall I think its a great shotgun. For the price I paid for it I cant complain. One thing I wish it did was automatically eject the rounds when I break it open. I havent had any problems with mine and I had it for over a year. I think its a well put together shotgun. Feels a lot more solid than the remington OU I was planning on getting. Also it may be a little stiff in the begining when you break it open but it will loosen slightly with time. Mine is still fairly tight. I think youll like it


Are the shells supposed to eject out upon breaking the action or the little metal piece is just supposed to bring the empty shells out a little for you to grab them? Mine doesnt eject them and I dont think it was designed to

And who the hell dry fires their guns anyway? I usually put a couple of spent shells in the gun this way the firing pin at least hits something soft

Lots of people do it. It's just a problem I read about.

My wife bought me one in Feb '06 after hearing the salesmen spiel at the Shot Show. At about 500 rounds the top firing pin broke. I called Mossberg and they wanted me to send the whole shotgun in for repair. I asked if I could just send the receiver without barrels and stock and their reply was no. I then emailed their parts department and after about a month of hounding they sent me a firing pin. It took a bit of file fitting but has worked now for another 1600 rounds.
The Shotgun preforms well although the drop isn't really low enough for my big fat head but after a few bruised cheeks I learned just how to weld my cheek without getting bit.
I found that my Benelli SBE chokes will interchange which is a plus.
So after the initial problems I am happy with the Silver Reserve as a starter gun and now have my eyes on a Winchester 101 with changeable single trap and O/U skeet barrels.

I've been looking at these, too. The only shotgun I have is a Mossberg 500, but I've gone trap shooting, upland game hunting, and even took my first shot at a deer with it (slugs and shotgun only areas suck, but there usually lots of deer)

I guess I was looking to treat my self to a 'nicer' gun. Something with nice metal and scroll work. And I love my Mossberg. I've seen them at Turner's, Big5, and over at Able Ammo... All at about the same price...

What else do you guys recommend with that look, 12gauge, over/under, and sub $700 price range??

Reason i buy 12 ga is because its usually found even in the most out of the way mom and pop store.
