Clay Pigeon Golf

Anyone ever heard of playing a game of "golf" using clay pigeons? If I understand right, you have 18 stations you visit where the clay targets will fly out from different directions and different angles. You get a certain # of shot to complete that station. A deduction occurs from your score if you miss or need another clay.

Also, know anywhere you can actually do this?

No... I've actually heard of the sporting clay stations being arranged as 18 separate "holes" and you receive a score at each station. I know it's referred to as golf with a shotgun.... just looking for a range that has this set up.... sounded interesting. If I find more info I'll share...

Oh I see, in your example you were saying that in the version you are asking about it is possible to take multiple shots on the same bird if you miss it the first time, albeit at a detriment to your score? Does each of the 18 "holes" have multiple machines? Sounds like that would take a LONG time to get through.

I have done of of these course type things in Iowa. I was on somebody's old farm and was really cool. Some stations were set to mimic birds flying over water. Others were set to mimic rabbits, doves, pheasants, etc. One station threw them practically straight in the air.

I can't remember if you just got like x number of shots per station and then you got a point for each target you hit, or if you got points based on number of shots it took to hit a target (with like a max of 4 or something).

Sorry, I don't know anywhere in California, but I'd think they would exist. They are really cool.

THIS. coyote valley sporting clays is an amazing range, make a reservation for the mountain course, i highly recommend it

If you like a more wide open range, there are at least a few more that I have been to.. Thunder hills near Willows (out past the racetrack) and Birds Landing (in Bird's Landing south of Highway 12 out between Suisun City and Rio Vista.

I also am in the South Bay and recently got into clays. Started with some help-yourself trap at the Los Altos Club, got into the Norcal clinic up in San Francisco for Skeet and am having a terrific time with it. Now I am looking forward to heading for the Coyote Valley Club to try some Sporting clays.
