    advice please

own a Remington 1100 tactical...i have had it for a few years and while accurate and comfortable to shoot, it just seems to jam on me when i least want it too..its always kept very clean and thats another issue...its kinda a pain to take apart.
Before the Remington i had a Winchester SX2, i don't remember having any problems with that, except i couldn't find a pistol grip for it and..to me..having a pistol grip is much more comfortable to shoot..So i'm in the market for either a Benilli or the FN SLP mark1.
Anyone here have these?..Hows the reliabilty?
Must it be kept spotless to run?..My Remington must be..
Are they easy to take down?
    all replys are much appreciated!!

Any gas operated system is subject to fouling. Unlike a Benellli which is recoil operated.

I see more issue these days with gas operated shotguns and I think much of the problem is that ammo makers are using a dirtier powder, especially in the economy type loads. This means finding better ammo a must for a gas operated shotgun.

There are a bunch of guys on this site that reload and can comment on the above better then I can as it is more an observation.

If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.

I have to agree with JD on the dirty ammo. the "cheap" stuff is dirty in comparison to the better ammo. Does your 1100 run well when its clean or does it have issues no matter what? The answer to that question will tell you what the problem is. Are you using cheap bulk packs like most do or are you using higher end loads?

Try switching ammo and picking up some more expensive stuff to try. I would suggest getting to remington premier STS or Nitro loads and see how it goes. Those loads are prob going to be pretty clean - uys with 1100s will shoot these for trap and skeet all day long without a hiccup.

I reload 12ga and in my observations, there are two things that contribute to fouling - the powder and the pressure. When you have a really dirty powder its going to be dirty no matter what. Sometimes you can load "hotter" (more pressure) and get less fouling and a nice complete burn even with a moderate dirty powder. On the other end, a very clean powder can be dirty if its loaded too light.

the FN SLP is based off the SX3 ,so you're gtg. I too was looking for a pistol gripped sx3 and sure enough, since FN is the parent company, they had the SLP in pistol grip form!

cgates, would the primers matter? If the high quality rounds used hotter primers and you get a faster burn it would seem there is less fouling. I have never reloaded anything but pistol and soon learned that "Unique" powder was a filthy as it comes. Went to only "Bullseye" powder for that reason. I have no knowledge or Shotgun ammo so I am curious how much of the OP's issue is the ammo.

I only run game loads in my 1100 as I hate any cycling issue and would even pay more for cleaner hotter loads if I was shooting this weapon more.

I guess my question back to the OP would be, jams how? It doesn't have to be spotless. I've been cleaning mine every second or third trip out on clays. Doesn't need tons of lube.

My 1100 field gun fires everything I run through it, including lots of light target loads as it's currently my #1 singles trap gun. But I've shot heavier game loads through it without a hitch.
