Buying Online Fees

Looking to buy my first shotgun in the next few months when the finances from the holidays stabilize. So, I'm looking online to get an idea of the prices on different guns. Course, I see prices sometimes better than the local stores.

My question is: Would buying online really save any money after I pay the transfer fees. And what are the fees, buying a handgun or shotgun from an online dealer.

That extra $50 buys you a local resource and service provider. Which online source are you going to turn to when you local shop goes out of business? In other words, who is going to do your PPT if all of the local guys have to go out of business?

I don't think there will be a shortage of pawn shops or shooting ranges in the near future. With that said, I do try and support my local dealer(s) when I can (depending on cost saving). If I'm going to save over a hundred, I'd have to do the online thing.

I just transfer a shotgun.

Mine cost $65 for transfer (DROS $25 + Fee $40) + CA tax (% of Total cost of your gun + Transfer fee)

I understand that spending my money locally is very important. I just want to know what my options are and if the savings, if any, are worth the effort of buying online.

If I'm only saving a hundred bucks on a $1500 purchase, I'll buy local. Over that, I may consider it.

I know of a shooting range here in my area that only charges $50 transfer fee, and $35 dros; they leave it up to you to report the tax at the end of the year.

Its way more reasonable from what other shops are trying to charge, but I get why they are doing it, but this discourages repeat customers in certain instances.
