How do you guys think about rubber recoil pads?

    The topic is really self-explanatory.

Personally don't like the rubber pads, feel that they extended my stock too much as I have really short arms. Furthermore, I am not certain how much does a rubber pad helping me taking the recoil.

First your stock should be cut to proper length before a rubber recoil pad is added...ie, you trigger pull length... second a good rubber pad makes all the difference in the world. maybe you have not tried a good modern rubber pad? on average it cost about $90-$100 for the work to be done or you can do it yourself with just the cost of the rubber pad.

I have one on my sportered M1917 and it's a shoulder-saver. Also use a slip-on model for the A2 stock on my Beowulf. Very uncomfortable without it. Some will just tell you to man up, I personally appreciate both the reduced bruising and flinch factor.

I have one on my favorite shotgun to lengthen the LOP (I have long arms) and I'm ordering one because my rifle stock needs to be extended about 1"

Cheaper than brownells stock spacer and might help with the recoil. Whatever you choose, make sure it fits YOU, not just the gun.

I also needed to add 1 inch of LOP for my gun to fit me better, I got a Ramington slip-on (same as limbsaver slip-on, but 2/3 the price) rubber pad and what a difference it made.

Last week before I got rubber pad, I shot 150 rounds of 12g and my gun had only 1/4 inch hard factory rubber pad. I had bruise and sorness for whole week.

Today, I went to sporting clay and shot another 150 rounds of 12g. No bruise and no sorness. I would of shot another 150 rounds but had to go work.

As long as your gun fits well after installing rubber recoil pad, it should be great improvement.

A hacksaw does wonders for making the stock shorter before you add a new Pad and the screw holes will still be there.

And if it is truly just a rubber pad, not much help. But if it is void filled or some space age material it can help tremendously.

Limbsaver recoil pads do make a positive difference.

I out one on my saiga 12 as the Length of pull on 12's is a bit short. It made the gun fit me much better and it also cut down on recoil at least 50%.

also keep in minde, if you have like a 870 or mossberg, some of the accessories manufacturers make replacements that don't add much length, if not at all. just swap it out, and your'e done.

But yeah , i would look into that more than anything if you want something that can still absorb recoil.

+1 for Limbsaver Precision Fit. I can shoot 00 buck and slugs comfortably with my Stoeger double barrel. Sure beats the plastic cover (yes, cover, i didnt consider it a recoil pad) that it originally had.

those two have so many aftermarket parts, it's rediculous. Swapping is pretty damn easy as well.

I can assure the OP, the pad helps. You can macho it up and deal with the hard hits, or you can put a pad on there, and enjoy your time with your gun more.

I like the way the replacement for the metal butt plate looks on a Mosin, anyone use one?

These things? Yeah, I use one. Some people claim they don't make a difference at all, but I personally found it to be a noticeable improvement, like down from a swift kick to a firm shove. It's definitely made shooting the nugget more bearable with the rest of my family.

Generally, properly installing a pad will require the stock to be shortened some to reach the same LOP. If you feel you are that sensitive to minor changes I'd suggest having the pad installed by a gunsmith who does stock work, rather than DIY.

I just had a KickEez one inch pad installed on my Remington 1100, replacing the OEM plastic plate. The stock was shorted just a bit and the addition of the pad and spacer added exactly 1/4 inch to LOP. I have very long arms and this made the gun fit like a glove and shoot like a dream. I missed three birds all day today, two of them in shoot offs unfortunately. The job cost me $65 including the pad.
