I bought a used 1300 Defender. The action is very rough when pumping back and forth using the slide release switch. I still have not fired it yet but am wondering is this normal? I also have a brand new Moss 500 I never fired and its action actuates much smoother. When comparing to my Moss, the 1300 is louder and feels like a chore to pump.

have you taken it apart yet? my Super X pump new was initially a but rough, but that was because it wasn't fired yet. i got several down the barrel, and don't have any problems with it since. Might want to check it out under if you bought it used.Be the change that you wish to see in the world.Mahatma Gandhi

I did. I removed the barrel , trigger assembly and the bolt assembly. I don't know how to disassemble the bolt assembly. This was used for a LGS. I cleaned the barrel using a bore snake and rem oil. I sprayed the bolt assembly with rem oil and wiped it down.Comment

when I remove the trigger assembly, everything slides smooth. the pump & bolt group. as soon as the trigger assembly is back in, everything gets rough when pumped. specifically the last 1/4 when sliding back towards the shooter.Comment

Rough or stiff? I have a 1300 and the last bit of slide travel has a stiff spot.
I attribute that to the bolt running over the hammer. The hammer is spring loaded and thats the resistance I feel when I run the slide back.Comment

I say take it out and shoot a box of 25 , and go from there. If it jams or malfunctions, then there might be something wrong with it, but otherwise, i just think it's part of the mechanics of the rotating bolt since it's supposed to act like a semi auto or think it's one lolBe the change that you wish to see in the world.Mahatma Gandhi

it feels like it is scraping against something metal.
it is the area when the bolt ( not the lug) is flush is all the way back, up to the rear of the ejection port. After it passes the rear of the ejection port all the way to the front it is fine.Comment

if it feels like it is scraping, you may have a bent rod on your pump slide that connects to the bolt. Slide the bolt and pump off of the lower tube and check the condition of the two rods as well as the grooves they slide in.
I polished up the edges of the two rods a bit and it smoothed out the action a bit. If it is the pump slide(think thats what its called), you can likely order one from Numrich if you can't find one elsewhere). Hope you can solve your problem. my 1300 has a rather smooth action so there has to be something wrong. sounds like a quick fix though.WTB: 3/8" dovetail(airgin/.22 size) rail to picatinny rail adapter or 3/8" rail size dovetail 1"'ringsComment

The back of the receiver has a blind hole that the firing pin goes into when the slide is all the way back...see any scraping or brightness in the hole? Also is the ejector sliding freely in its hole? Is the spring that goes around the ejector tail in good shape and not smashed up?Comment

Maybe a bent ejector(overly tweaked) or ejector pin or a pinched reciever? How easy does the trigger group install? Be a little generous with the Rem Oil and see what happens. Mine has been super easy to rack since day one (1985).Comment
