Turners has the shotgun for $219 right now on sale. Anyone have any experience with this gun? Pros/Cons? I will mainly use it for home defense, and when at the range some clay shooting. Do you guys think its worth the price?

I've been looking at these too. Is the model you looking at the security 20" or the 6 shot? Sports Authority has the 6 shot on sell for $179 here. That's about $211 otd.
From what I've read:
-95% of the parts are interchangeable with 500's
-lighter than 500's. So will have more felt recoil
-safety is a cross bolt next to the trigger instead of the tang.--------------------------------------------

Good to go, you don't need all that tactical garbage for a HD gun. Maverick is made by Mossberg, I actually traded one for a complete AR lower a few years ago, as far as I know the guy still has it and uses it a lot.sigpic

The Mexican mossberg! The parts are made in Mexico and then assembled in Eagle Pass, TX (same place mossberg does all the warranty work)
Nothing wrong with them at all, the model he is looking at is the 6 shot security model.
OP have fun, its a great inexpensive way to get into a shotgun. Then watch the WTS section for someone dumping the extra 28" barrell with the fixed modified choke from the big5 combo, and you will be set for trap and light sporting clays. That barrel killed plenty of ducks and rabbits for me so it works fine.
Buy and enjoy.sigpicComment

They still have it on sale for $219, im pretty locked in for it (unless I can find for cheaper). Does anyone know if I can legally get a shorter stock? It might be too long for my reach but it doesnt bother me THAT me. But it would feel alot more comfortable with a shorter stock.Comment

Is it the 6-shot or the 8-shot model? Either way, it's a good buy! But if it's the 8-shot, then it is definitely a must-buy. I owned an 88 before, terrific shotgun. No frills, no fancy extras, dead-reliable, and affordable.
It got replaced by my bells-and-whistles 590a1, but I still miss that utilitarian shotgun.

I have a old wood stock mossberg 500 that i have been shooting for about 18 years now and it has NEVER failed in any way. EVER. i used to use it for everything cause it was my only shotgun for a long long time. The 500 is very very similar to the Maverick. Lots of the parts interchange.Comment

I have one. I bought it at K-Mart in 1998 for $75.00. It is my go to shot gun and I have 870's a Winchester super X and a S&W 3000. It is my truck gun...meaning that I'll throw it in the back of the truck w/o a case and get on down the dirt road. It's a great beater gun.

Its legal to change stocks to alter length of pull. First, make sure you need a shorter stock. And if you find you need a shorter stock....I have a speedfeed youth synthetic stock that is 13" lop that I may sell. IIRC, it will fit rem 870 mossy 500 and with adapter win 1300. Mossy 500 and Mav 88 stocks will swap. They still have it on sale for $219, im pretty locked in for it (unless I can find for cheaper). Does anyone know if I can legally get a shorter stock? It might be too long for my reach but it doesnt bother me THAT me. But it would feel alot more comfortable with a shorter stock.Comment

This was my first shotgun over 20 years ago. I couldn’t even guess the number of rounds it has seen. It has been beaten and abused the moment I got a hunting shotgun a couple years later. It still holds up strong. Nothing has ever gone wrong with this gun. I don't use it for hunting any more. It's more a home defense setup now. But I do put the old stock and barrel on it when I take people skeet shooting. I doubt this gun will ever fail me in my lifetime. As others have said most moss 500 parts are interchangeable. If you’re on a budget or want a good deal get it you will not regret it.Comment

A Sports Authority in CA that still sells guns? I use to work for them and thought they gave up on that venture long ago. Crap, and to think I could have used my employee discount there.I've been looking at these too. Is the model you looking at the security 20" or the 6 shot? Totally legal, tube fed and OAL are good, you're GTG. There are a lot of stocks for your gun, same as M500. My Persuader has just been trimmed down, and I shaved down the butt pad edges, you really can't tell. Plus you can get bantam stocks (shorter for the lil' guys) and those cool tactical zombie crusher telescoping stocks, which is actually a non-goofy option depending on your shooting positions and other people shooting your shotgun. They still have it on sale for $219, im pretty locked in for it (unless I can find for cheaper). Does anyone know if I can legally get a shorter stock? It might be too long for my reach but it doesnt bother me THAT me. But it would feel alot more comfortable with a shorter stock."It's easy to be hungry when you ain't got $h!t to lose..." W. Axl Rose
