    Big 5 870's?

So today I bought my first shotgun, the Remington 870 Express Magnum at Big 5. So let me first say I'm probably going to make myself look like an idiot, but some people have said that Big 5 firearms are of lesser quality than the same ones sold at an actual gun store. That said, I want to know whether the of the 870's sold at Big 5 are COMPLETELY identical in every aspect, from parts to performance to reliability as one that I may buy at an actual gun store, or if Big 5 870's are cheaper, faultier versions.

    Thanks

Call Remington and ask. See if the Remington shot shells at walmart are inferior too.

Big 5 sells 870 Express models. They are the exact same 870 Express you can get any place else that sells guns. Big 5 sells at a cheaper price because they are one of the three or four largest retailers of guns in the country and get a deeper discount per unit based on their volume of sales.

Some manufacturers, Marlin and Mossberg among them, will produce "Big 5" and "Wal-Mart" specials of their guns that are made with a bit less finishing touches (think checkering on a wood stock, for instance) to meet the price points these sales giants can and do command. In the case of the Mossberg 500 combo, as one example, the manufacturer uses a Maverick 88 fore end and a fixed choke barrel to help keep their cost of goods manufactured low enough to meet their own margin expectations when they sell in bulk at the "Big 5 price".

Hmmm. My guess is that they're all the same? Just a guess.

Well as long as Remington isn't one of "some manufacturers", then it's cool.

They all are to some degree.... don't worry about it. I have a Marlin 1894C lever gun in .357 Magnum in my safe, bought at Big 5. Only difference between it and an 1894C at a significantly higher price is checkering on the stock. Same gun, same internals, same performance.

Find the gun that fits you, your needs and your bank balance, go out to shoot it and enjoy. If you feel better spending a bunch more money you could buy an 870 Wingmaster or 870 Police.... still the same gun at the core.

An 870 is an 870 so yes, yours is the same, however, I understand that some models may have some minor differnces in the forend and barrel bracket of the Tube Extension on the 6+1 models. Some of the Big 5 HD models did not have the Quick Detach stud on the barrel bracket. This is a $12 difference then on the 25077 Model you would get elsewhere. I have also been told that some of these same models had the Sport forend and not the Speedfeed LE forend that comes on the 25077.

If you got the security model as Big 5 calles it s this the case with yours?

I wouldn't look into to much. It will perform just as well as any other 870.

OP, don't worry if it's from Big 5, I have the same Express Magnum that I purchased used. I work for a big sheriffs department that uses the Rem 870, and it's no different than mine other than fit, finish, and furniture just what aippi sez. What I did with mine is change out some small police parts that is in par with the police models except for finish. It's easy to change and you will get to know your Remington inside and out and possibly self diagnose it also. Aippi is also helpful if you have questions.

                    I think those 8 shot 870s from Big 5 are a good thing/deal.

The only thing I do not like about them are the pump handles, but there is a solution to that issue.

If you can shoot enough to wear out any 870, then you've done better than most. 25 years + of a case of ducks shot through my wing master and the core of the gun is still great!! Just shoot it and have fun.

Your Big 5 870 is fine. If there is anything you want to change about it, such as stock, forend, bbl, etc., it is a super easy DIY fix. It should serve you well.

My 25077 is just the opposite. Advertised in the paper with the Sport forend but came with the Speedfeed. i think it was the Security model and it does have a quick detach stud. I am not for cetain, but instead of a stud screwed into the stock for a sling, it has an eye molded into the plasic stock for attaching sling hardware.

Then your is the 25077 and I am thinking all the ones Big 5 is selling are simply that model now as there has never been a model called the 870 Security, that is simply the name big 5 gave to the one they sold. They were able to get the cost cut some with the two difference I mentioned. It may simply be they no longer order those build specs and simply sell the 870 HD 6+1 which is the 25077.

                              Same as any 870 express.
You will probably have some extraction issues until it wears in or if you polish the chamber.
Mine were almost non existent though nothing a little extra elbow grease when cycling didn't cure. Also the finish isn't as durable as a blued finish but it's also a cheaper gun than a wingmaster so you can't expect the same quality.
