Shotgun in my trunk while camping in a Nat'l/State forest?

Hi guys, I posed this question in the Firearms in Forests and Parks section but it seems that the thread is never really visited. I hope it's not a bother asking here.

My question is this: On state and national wildlife parks, can an unloaded firearm (in my case, a shotgun) be kept in the trunk of my car?

For example, say I want go to the Angeles Shooting Ranges then camp somewhere around Tujunga Canyon and prefer not to drive back and forth from Long Beach in between.

Ofcourse a trunk is a locked container. As long as its unloaded its fine.

California state parks and national parks are two completely different animals. A trunk is a locked container, yes.
