it seems to me it would be handy if I ever wanted to try trap with my 20" mossberg, but they don't seem to have any shot smaller then #6 with the wad...

Is there #8 birdshot with FliteControl wadding?

I've written up my ongoing adventures as I learn to hunt.
Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.
I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.
I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.Tags: None -
They're using a variation of it in their Black Cloud steel shot waterfowl ammo, but nothing above #6 shot that I can find.
I'd expect that the rationale is that the smaller sizes of shot, being used for closer in shooting on fast moving birds don't necessarily benefit from the technology.

The loads that you are looking for have gone away. Most shotguns today have inter-changeable chokes.....just screw in a tighter choke.....problem solved.
As a note....I experimented with a skeet choke on the Trap range today.....if I was on they would break from as far back as the 25 yard line..... equipment makes small differences. Best thing to do is get out there and shoot with what you have.Comment

No choke threads in my 590.
because I enjoy the challenge, because why solve an issue with hardware when you can solve it with ammo, and because I'd like to practice as much as I can with my HD shotgun it its stock configuration.
besides, I might hate trap shooting...NRA Patron Member

What choke is your barrel? Mod or CYLComment

I assume it's cylinder; there doesn't appear to be any restriction at the end of the barrel, nor any threaded in choke.NRA Patron Member

Not available as a component that I am aware of.
And yes you can powder them with a short barrel and a cylinder choke. I ran 25 from 16 yards with an 18 inch barreled 870 in the academy eons ago. It helped that I'd been shooting trap for several years at the time, but it's definitely doable as thefeeder's experience above notes..

Buy the FC rounds then just replace the shot. I do this for other loadings.
Put a cut-off drywall screw in a pin vise to screw into the loaded round. Pry gently with screw. Once it's slightly open, use a small flat screw driver to open the petals, neatly. Dump the shot. Add your own shot. Crimp with cheap LeeLoader
