Over size trigger plate for 870

Being up here in Michigan I am often shooting with gloves on and always hunting with gloves on. For this reason I am liking what you see in this picture. This is a proto-type model that Mesa Tactical sent me to install all the parts in. I put it in one of my personal 870's and I love it. I'm sure even you guys out there do some cold weather shooting.

I will now send it back to Mesa, I want to keep it but promised Mitch I would send it back for thier Testing. For this to get into production I think they need to hear from guys that are interested in an upgrade like this. The 870 would be first then other models.

So, if this is of interest post in with a response. I really want this item to go into production as I have a need and I know Hunters and LEO's in the cold climates do as well.

Add an oversized safety and slide release and its a huge winner.

I wear gloves when I duck hunt and that looks like it would be a positive improvement.

The bad part is that I know what that housing is attached to, and it's probably a ***** for a non gunsmith to install.

I'm also hoping it is not plastic.

If we do it, it will be a gunsmith install item. The plan would be to make it out of Ryton, a resin that looks and feels so much like aluminum you can't tell it's plastic.

I hope JD is talking about this idea in some colder parts of the country than California.

Props to Mesa for making awesome, made in the USA, shotgun add-ons!

How about a drop-in M4 hand guard with a small M1913 rail on it for lights to go with your great stock?

Very nice design. That could / would definitely be a plus on any 870 that's used where gloves are the norm.... hunting or tactical. There is nothing wrong with polymer trigger guards properly made. They'll still be in service when an aluminum one is smashed flat.

Yep, posted it in the Florida Gun forum as I am retired out of Florida. Michigan winters are nothing to me because before coming to Michigan I spent 6 years in the coldest most frigid conditions a man could exsist in and not die from exposure. That was in Miami, but I divorced her.

Yes, I value the input of the CGN guys the most but have it on other forums.

It looks a bit large.... If I were wearing gloves under extreme cold conditions I may loose them for the sake of manipulating the weapon, reloading, etc. Most guys I know shooting with gloves use a relatively light weight glove for the above reasons. It may be a huge sell within the hunting community, in which case I haven't seen an 870 in awhile.

Just seems that at some point, it becomes less of a guard. Hard to tell without having one next to me at the moment.

There are a ton of 870s used for hunting in cold, this product should be huge IMO.

Look at the trigger guards on Belgian and Italian made shotguns, both of those manufacturers specialize in cold weather. I wouldn't go any bigger than those. Again, the photo without a a finger or glove in it is slightly misleading. Anyway, the reasoning behind my thoughts...
