590-A1 sling system - Advice.

Any advice here.

I want something I can put on the gun that will be out of the way (or usefull) when shooting.

But I also want something very functional and comfortable because I have a very heavy gun.

20" brl and 12+1 capacity = heavy loaded weight.

Something I can shoulder or back sling for longer hikes.

Comfortable for heavy weight usually translates to wide, which usually kills the usefullness of them for doing a hasty sling.

If your shooting for comfort, something wide, and relatively stiff, IE leather would be my pick.

It is not stiff, very well made, and very comfortable. I just dont know how you'll implement it. But there great slings.

Hmm interesting choices there.

I'm leaning towards out of the way when I'm shooting and a more classical (not necessarily tactical) design when I'm hiking.

I'll be doing one or the other, but not both at the same time (as in tactical).

I've got an open mind though.

For my purposes the three point one pictured above is not what I need though. In the way and too low for hiking, although it is ready.

I don't need it to be that ready.

I do need to be able to transition from hauling to shouldering but the hauling part need not be at the ready hauling.

Those look interesting to me.

Not as smooth as I had invisioned, but I suppose the texture is good to prevent excess slippage and more sideways flexibility.

They look kinda heavy also. But perhaps not if synthetic.

I tried to use single point as I did on AR-15...then I realized that I am too short (5-8) for the 20in barrel lol

And its simple enough were even my dumb *** can figure it out. Thats why I like it. Has a pretty long adjustment to it also.

I have an AR-15 style made by urbanERTslings. Interchangeable on the fly between a 2 point and single point... long enough to get to the end of my 7 round chamber and still be useful..

Vicker's 2-Point Sling ... have one on my 590 ... actually have several of them on my AR's as well. Quickly adjustable. Comfortable. Decent Price.

While these slings will allow the gun to hang comfortably, the added weight of having spare shells attached to it causes the gun to move more when transitioning target to target. Swinging weight hanging off your SG is bad JuJu. Avoid these slings on a shotgun.

I've made plenty of "carry strap" two point slings from 5 to 6 feet of 1-1/4" nylon webbing and two double "D" ring adjusters. My wife calls me cheap, I perfer "economical". Although I do like the Vickers ACS...$50 could be better spent on ammo IMHO. Especially considering I'm not out doing "Contractor" work off shore. In that environment I think the commercial tactical slings shine.
I've tried the single point and three point tactical slings and end up putting my two point carry strap back on. The single point attachment ring on my Mossberg 500 increased the length to the trigger by about a quarter inch. No real big deal, but I had to adjust my grip to make it work. Firing from the support side I found the attachment ring hit my hand if everything wasn't just perfect. The 3 point slings were just more trouble than it was worth.
Law enforcement makes pretty good use of the 3 points because it allows the operator to just "drop" the gun if they need to transition to a handgun or use both hands for "other related duties". But again, I'm not chasing bad guys anymore or serving warrants. Let your need(s) be your guide when looking into slings. Most of us have a box (or two) full of former latest and greatest equipment/holsters/slings and other assorted junk.

I would not keep a sling on an HD shotgun; too easy for it to get hung up on chairs and doorknobs.

ok, I got a really stupid question here

I am trying to install a Blackhawk sling adapter on my 590A1 with M4 style stock
but how do I remove the stock at first place?

the owners manual doesn't address about M4 style stock, and I can't find any screws on it besides the swivel in the end.
