Turning friends onto shooting...got each one to commit to doing the same...

Yesterday I brought a half a dozen guys to the Martinez Gun Club for some fun shooting trap...

My boy, J-Bird from the LBC, was hosting his roommate's bachellor party and wanted to have some good clean fun, and asked me for ideas. What's more manly (short of going to the juice bars) a time can be had than shooting shotguns?! Long story short (is it too late?) these guys shot very well for their first time out, and I predict new shotgun sales in the near future (if not for themselves, for the groom!)!

I got up on my soap box for a few minutes, talking directly to 2A rights and how we need to excercise and support. I told them that other than enjoying shooting, that I equally enjoy turning on others to the sport, so that they can not only join in the fun, but so that they can get others into it too. They all commited to each getting six other folks turned on... "J-Bird, Los Homeboys, vayo con dios Vatos!"

Just a couple other notes: What's even cooler, is there was one other guy named Mike in from out of town for work....he joined us for the fun, offered to share some of his SG's with the new guys to use, and had a similar experience turning on 6 of his friends/co-workers just last week...and all of those guys went out and bought SGs from having so much fun. There also was one other guy named Steve that was really cool about letting me shoot his new Remington...solid SG, as he was doing a dry run before taking out his boys to teach them the sport.

Also want to give props to Ron from CS who also joined in the good time....really a good guy (and yes, he know's the rep/opinions of some of us CGers... ). He and his friend were wicked good shots, and a pleasure hanging out with.

So, I know I'm preaching to the choir, and I'm sure you already have, but if not, turn on others, and get them to commit as well to getting others in on the fun/right too.

...stepping down from my soap box now....Have a great day!

i've been getting some of my friends interested in shooting too it's a great thing , especially when you build up your arsenal, and you can share the wealth by letting them shoot your guns and having fun with the guys!

I am still trying to convince my gf come to range with me.
She was raised in a family without weapons thus not used to operating one...

check out ranges or clubs that have classes/family events

for example, out at the Martinez club they have all kinds of events, shooting, social, etc, for the everyone in the family, guys/gals/kids:

when I used to shoot indoors out at Jackson Arms, they had a lady's night...they shoot free, see other ladies shooting, etc.

Also, think about having someone else teach her how to shoot, someone that is certified and knows what they're talking about, so that she learns how to shoot correctly. Be warned, she may vary well end up becoming a better shot that you

If you don't live in the SF/Bay area, hope you have similar options in your area.

          good luck.
