shell carrier on my Mossberg 500

I was told by my friend that in California I can have the shell carrier on my shotgun but can't put any shells in the carrier. Sounds stupid wrong to me but THIS IS CALIFORNIA.

    Is this true?

If I should have put this in general gun forum let me know please.

Not true at all. You can carry it with shells in the carrier.
Bounce a ball in Football that's a fumble. Baseball, no bouncing at all. Bounce a ball in Hockey, well that's a mandatory drug test right there...

      This forum works.

Wait, your friend meant legally you can't put shells in the carrier? No, there is absolutely no reason for him to think that. I wouldn't trust his gun advice....

Great. I thought that would be kind of stupid, but with the arsenal her husband has I thought she might know something I didn't.

there are plenty of reasons for him to think this. It USED to be considered a loaded weapon.

Okay, but if that were the case, the only time that would come into play would be if you were open carrying it, transporting it in a car, or any other time banning a loaded weapon. It still would be completely legal to have in your house.

I didn't know about that before though, interesting. Glad it's changed.

I have a fair collection, but I wouldn't suggest taking legal advice about guns from my wife.

Carrier like a sidesaddle? Yeah no worries there.

Carrier like the part that goes up and down inside the loading port? That would be a problem.
