    FN SLP, Anyone got one?

Im looking at the FN Self Loading Police shotgun as my next long gun.

Anyone have one? If so, how is it?

I just sold my 870. looking to go Semi -auto. Always been a big fan of FN and this shotgun looks very nice.

I love my FN SLP Mk 1 22" smoothbore. It was a big step up in reliability, accuracy, finish and feel from my Mossberg 930. It has a front FO bead for rapid target acquisition and a rear 10/22-type sight for slug shooting. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's a little heavy.

My friend has one. 1k of various rounds so far, mostly the federal/winchester bulk stuff from walmart. Since it has a 22" barrel, skeet/trap shooting is doable.
Only time it hiccuped when it was dry. Squeezed some oil in action and we've haven't had a hiccup since.
Nice thing is you can switch pistons. One for light loads, other for heavier ones.
They are pricey, but it's quality shotgun.

I know of 3 guys who just bought FN SLP MkI 22" for 3 gun. I almost bought one last year until I shot a Salient M2 Benelli.
SuperSet, great video on the GOT, I got one about 2 months ago. Loading weak hand.
Have never loaded faster. Down to 7 sec for 8. Love the GRiTS way to load.
If you can't shoot good, at least look good shooting

Thx 3GFS! The nice thing about loading weakhand is you never have to worry about burning your hand on that hot barrel. I wouldn't know anything about that.

I've been looking to get one but there are no local dealers that I know of (I'm in Lakewood, Ca). Anyone have a line on an SLP 18"???? It would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't seen them locally. Try Buds Gun Shop.
And unless you're working in a vehicle, I'd go with the 22" model.

I bought one about a month ago and have cycled more than 200 various rounds in it without no malfunctions. The gun cycles smooth and shoot extremely fast. I liked the price on the FN compared to the Benelli. Saved about $600 going with the FN.
I haven't shot any slugs in it but I don't think it matters. This gun eats any shells you put in it. I've shot 00 buck, remington game loads, some waterfowl loads, Winchester AA trap loads, Rem-Peters heavy target loads and some old high brass game loads.
One of the things I didn't like about the gun is loading it. Loading the 8 shells in the magazine requires some finesse without taking your thumb off from the feeding ramp. The simple fix to that was a Dremel Tool grinding it off. Now my thumb doesn't get lacerated anymore. I know proforce in Brea, sells them cheap but you have to be military, police, fire, security or EMS to buy from them. Good luck.

A bit off topic but how do they compare with the Mossberg 930SPX??? Is Mossberg quality that bad???

It's a great gun. I bought mine on gun genie off gallery of guns. They'll ship out directly to the FFL closet to you that they're partnered with. Each FFL sets their own price and the one closest to me had it for $100 cheaper than anywhere else.

My Mossberg 930 worked but never shot slugs well and the finish wasn't that great. Plus, it recoiled harder than the SLP. Having said that, remember that the Mossberg is roughly half the price of the SLP so you'd expect some corners cut.

I have several semi-auto shotguns. What I've compared the FN SLP (22" barrel MKI smooth bore) is a Benelli M1S90, M2, Remington 1100, and old Winchester. The FN is softer shooting and more balanced than the rest. I've shot bird/target load for trap and varmiting, buck, slugs, heavy and soft loads, and with the proper piston, it's more reliable than Old Faithful.

I think comparing this to the Salient/Benelli is a bit unfair. If you sent the FN to a custom shop and had it modified, I'm sure a competent gunsmith could make an FN just as good if not better. This is just my useless opinion, I would suggest trying one for yourself and making a choice then... everyone is different.
