    Rem 1100 Tac 2

So picked up my 1100 tac 2 monday night and put my goodies on it at work yesterday and headed out to the range last night. Took a mixed bag of different shells to play around with and it ran like a dream on every slug and it just ate up and loved the TAP light mag 00, only disappointing thing was it obviously did not like the low base target loads or the winchester ranger reduced recoil buck......any one have a similar experience with one?

And also, i hear about alot of guys opening up the gas ports a tiny amount and they will run absolutely anything no problem at all, but what adverse effects in the long run could that have if I run full power loads through it?

I've been hunting with 1100's and 1187's my whole life so I'm very familiar with it, but this is my first venture into one in a tactical setup so anyone with insight on it is welcomed.

With my 1100 CM I had to run at least 3 dram loads and then I went up to 3.25 dram.
I stuck with the Remingtons at Wal-Mart and the Federals. For matches I would only use
Winchester AA, 3.25. After about 3 years of use I did open the gas ports up.
Slugs, I only ran the Reminton Manage Recoil. Worked fine. Federal low recoil did well also.
If you can't shoot good, at least look good shooting

Notice anything after opening up the ports? Increase in cycling on lower power loads? It ran great on the rem and federal slugs and the TAP and winchester buck, but anything "reduced recoil" stove piped or didnt cycle enough to eject....

How much did you open them up? being a tac-2 with the 18.5 I understand it should have 2 holes instead of 1 like on my older 1100 and 1187's

The size of the gas orifices are determined by the barrel length and type of load the weapon is designed for. Messing with these can damage the weapon over time. You are asking the weapon do to something it was not designed to do and that is going to create problems down the road.

Another consideration is yours is a new weapon with a two year warranty. Messing with the gas orifices voids that warranty.

Several guys are going to jump in about how they did this with no problems. Look at their qualifications to know the issue and then look at mine. Decide based on whom is giving you the correct answer. 3gun shooter gave you the loads you need to be shooting so follow his advice.

I don't in anyway plan on drilling out the gas ports or go modifying it in a way to possibly void my warranty on it (I leave all that to when I build AR's lol). This is just for knowledge as its my first tactical length 1100 as compared to using 1100's and 1187's for hunting and such throughout my life.

Also, talked to Paula at remington about 10 minutes ago and the majority of the feed issues I had were when running the winchester ranger reduced recoil 00, when I started to ask her about not cycling she actually stopped me and asked me if I was using Ranger RR 00, I'm just gonna stick with the loads I know work reliably but just wanted some insight from others on their experience.

I have not used those and can't even pronounce that word.

I buy Wolf 00 by the case and my 11-87P loves the stuff. It is a little hotter then most of the regular stuff out there and case price allows me to shoot more.

+1 on Wolf 00 and slug. Both 100% cycle in all my guns, including through a smoothbore rifle sighted deer barrel on an 1100, for what it's worth. My experience with Fiocchi is limited to target loads, but they've run okay in my 1100s in longer barrel lengths.

To the OPs question / point. I'd break the gun in more before I started looking for other answers. If the 1100 Tac2 is set up anything like the 11-87P (I've not handled a Tac 2 so I can only guess) then it's going to run solid on full power ammo and be finicky about lesser powered ammo... target bird shot in particular.

Federal reduced recoil buck and slug have run really well in every gun I've tried them in, or seen them tried in. FWIW, Cheaper than Dirt has Federal Flite Control 1300 FPS 00B at $3.86 per 5 right now and the reduced recoil stuff at $5.48 per 5.

Thats what I figured, my old 1100 and my 1187 aren't big fans of low power stuff either. But it never hurts to ask the masses and confirm your thoughts. I prefer to run the hotter stuff anyway (it's only a 12g, doesn't kick enough to need "reduced recoil") but always looking for the least expensive way to pull a trigger.

And you are correct, the tac2 is set up like the 1187p. and I will probably stick to the hornady TAP light mag buck (get a box of 10 at gunshows for 6.95), yeah it has one less ball in it, but for closer range work its fine, if not, cycle out to the slug lol
