    Best ammo?

This might have been ask before but since I am new to shotgun world, what is the best ammo for shot gun, what kind and what brand considering the following? just need to be educated.

    1. Home protection, defense. Close range I say 15 to 25 yards specially in close distance like home? Accuracy and damage.

    2. Target shooting outdoor and indoor.

    3. Maybe for skeet from time to time.

FYI, I do have the mosberg 500 combo. just got it from a friend.

    Thanks
    Guys. Any info will help.

You'll need to get out to the range with some different types of ammo to see how each type patterns out of your shotgun. Buy some of different ammo and try them out, not every shotgun shoots the same ammo the same way.

As far as Home defense, your #1 question:

In my Benelli I like the Federal Tactical 00 Buck, it's lower recoil and patterns nicely out of the gun at < 10 yards (more than the longest shot I would take in my home).
The same ammo isn't as nice out of a Remington 870 a friend has....

Basically, I'm telling you to go spend some "working" time at the range.

for skeet go with #9's. if you have the money people prefer the Remington STS or Winchester AA's, because you can reload them a bunch. else, the remington gun clubs, rios, kemen, estate, federal wallie worlds work just fine. I use #8's for singles trap, and 7.5's for handicap/doubles 2 3/4 dram, 1 to 1 1/8 oz RIO loads. they are okay and a little cleaner burning than estates or federal walmart loads.

What I would stay AWAY from are slugs at that range. I would be afraid of it going through the BG and hitting some thing or someone I did not intend to.

00 Buck is good though. There are nine 9mm balls in a shell if I remember right so its like hitting the BG with nine rounds of 9mm.

                15 to 25 yards...
One big room, might hit other than BG. Jury may not view it as home protection, defense and specially not close distance. IMO.

Maybe I over exagerate 15-25 yards,..... it's because I also want to use it at the outdoor range and dont' really want to buy different kinds. I guess it comes down to either 00 Buck or Birdshots? HHMMMM!

                    1) Federal Low Recoil Tactical Buckshot or just some lead #7-9 low recoil

2/3) Winchester AA Target/Sporting Clays or Wolf Sporting Clays

I'm going to be patterning the Hornady TAP 00 buck in my 20" mossberg and see how it does.

When I go out to the desert to just blow through some ammo, I shoot whatever is cheapest.

BTW, 00 buck will go through a couple walls before stopping also. www.theboxotruth.com
