It's a good buy, but I'd personnally would go for a Remington 870.

Spend the extra $50 and get the 870

If you're tight on cash, a Mossberg 500 is fine. If you can spare the extra money, a Remington 870 is better. If you can spare a little more money, a Mossberg 590 is better still. They're all good, though.

And if you can really afford it, then get the 870 Wingmaster

I have both a 500 and a couple 870's one being a wingmaster.. I like all for diff reasons, the 870 WM is more refined, the Mossberg is more for beating up. They both work.

I just bought an 870 Police. How is the Wingmaster different (in "refinement")?

If you want to accessorize, get the Remington 870.

If you want a shotgun that can be used for a left hander. Get a Mossberg as it has the ambi tang safety.

forget cost. forget "better". pick the one that the buttons feel the most natural for you. i prefer the location on the mossberg controls. im willing to have a bit rougher gun for that familiarity. the rem 870 is a bit better, but i dislike em.

It's pretty much the same thing except yours is parkerized.

I got an 870 wingmaster as my first shotgun a few months ago after my bro got an 870. Love the fit and finish. Just feels solid as a rock to me, which I absolutely love. Also im a lefty, and have no problem with the safety. A friend has a mossy 500, and its a nice gun also but doesnt feel as solid as the 870 to me. Thats just my humble opinion though! I would go hold both and see what fits and feels better to you.

Great choice! I've had mine for 12 years, still shoots straight to this day.

Its a good choice. 870 has more accessories though. Either one will serve you well.

I think thats a good gun. That was one of my choise before i bought my first. but if im going to buy another shotgun Mossburg would be the one i would also like to have. I like the safety location and i heard alot of good things abaut it. especialy the durability of it. This is just my opinion...

I'm an 870 guy, well actually an Ithica 37 guy and a stevens 520 guy, but recently I went the 870 route and I've liked it.

There Ain't nothin wrong with a mossy, but there's a bit more right with a remmy
