NEED AN ADVICE....

HELLO EVERY ONE..... I BAUGHT A BENELLI SUPERNOVA FOR HOME DEFENCE. AND ALSO WANTING TO SHOOT SOME PAPER AT THE LOCAL RANGE. THE THING IS.. IM NEW AT THIS SHOTGUN THING..IM NOT SURE IF I GOT A SOLID GUN? OR I JUST BAUGHT SOMETHING THAT I SHOLD NOT RELY ON. PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR THAUGHTS ON THIS...- THANKS IN ADVANCE....

shoot.... i shold have baught a Mossberg.. i guess i just wasted my money on this one. it just didnt seem right at the time. it was almost the same price. some one told me that Mossberg is an awsome gun. I chose the Benelli cuz of the 3" and 3" 1/2 Magnum shell size capability. They may just over rated this Benelli thing.. sucks....

I've shot one that belonged to an acquaintance and found no fault with it, but it was only about 50 rounds or so.

Does it work for you? Have you fired it? Has it jammed or otherwise malfunctioned?

If you plan on using a firearm in a life or death situation, the gun itself ranks about third in the priority of things, IMHO. Mindset and training come first.

Mindset... a whole other thread or series of threads.

Training... all I can say is: get some. Find a reputable firearms instructor in your area (or be willing to travel to one) that teaches on the defensive use of the shotgun. It's not cheap, but it's worth it. Bring what you have and if it works, great! If it doesn't work/malfunctions, you spent a few hundred dollars on a good learning experience, rather than getting shot for free because you're equipment (and/or your own skills) were not up to par and you didn't know it until it was too late.

take it out and shoot it. if it goes bang everytime then id say its fine. badguys arent gun snobs, they are just as dead when shot with a crappy gun.

I recently purchased a Benelli Supernova myself a few months ago and since then I must have fired at least 800 rounds without any problems.

I've also trained with the Remington 870 both Mosssberg 590A1 shotguns. In my opinion (and it's just my opinion) I would rate the Benelli right up there with.

As mentioned in the previous posts, get some proper training with the shotgun and get some range time with it.

The most important thing is does this particular shotgun work for you? Do you feel comfortable with it?

For example, I have a friend who was so hyped up about the Benelli M4 shotgun so went out and bought one even though his only shooting experience was with a .380 semi-auto handgun. He took a training class (don't know where) with his shotgun and became flustered with the button manipulation during a "stress situation" exercise that he had a very, very difficult getting his shotgun in battery.

The end result, he's hasn't fired his Benelli in over a year (less than 100 rounds through it) and it sits in a safe.

Just my two cents and a story to go with it.

good point about button locations. its the biggest reason i prefer a mossberg500 to a rem 870. the buttons are where i like em.

It's a good shotgun, just train & practice with it. Get to know it like your own body parts. You'll be fine.

It's a great scatter gun for home defense. Mine works great. Easy to clean, button locations are great. ITS NOT GARBAGE. If you buy a firearm with out really doing any reasearch then you should not be buying firearms at all. I love my SuperNova. Wouldn't trade it for nothing. Love the low recoil as compared to other shottys. It's a matter of preference. Its a solid firearm and it's perfectly fine for home defense. If you were not sure in the beginning then you should have not bought it in the first place. Do your research before you buy, not after the fact. Asking for advice after the fact will do you no good. My advice to you is to sell it to someone who knows that they want a Benelli SuperNova without question.

The words "garbage" and "great" are flung with impunity amongst 3-gun people. I would take them with a grain of salt. No, I'd say they're meaningless. Sure, they do a lot of shooting. Sure, they know their stuff, but their opinion is in terms that don't apply to someone purchasing for home defense. It's like going to the race track and asking for information about a commuter car for a family.

The Supernova is a fine shotgun. Is it the greatest pump in the history of the world? No, but what did you expect from a pump shotgun? It's well designed, cheap and functional. It does incorporate a lot of plastic and it doesn't have the ability to accept them or the following of other shotguns to have a large source of aftermarket parts.

Relax about your purchase. Spend some time and shoot it. Get a Wal-Mart value pack of bird shot and learn to cycle it properly. Along with those, get some boxes of buckshot (00 and 000) and slugs to get a feel for those, too.

You're going to be just fine.

i don't own one but i have talked to people who do three gun matches and tell me they are garbage.they are very reliable resorces that spend alot of money on firearms or will buy a springfield milspec and trick it out to feel better than a bear.their guns i have handled.

WOW..!!!!! you guys are great and verry imformative... Abaut the training i compleatly agre 100%. thanks for all your input..and yes i have fired it with abaut 300 + round in it.and shot a few buck shot and slugs.whith no problems. i was preaty happy abaut the way it performed. then again i only shot birdshots trough it most of the time. I havet got to the 3inch shells yet. wanting to see if i cold get a biger bruce on my sholder from it. Dont get me wrong im comfortabel with this gun and i can manage not to get those wonderful bruceses..- KNOWLEGE IS ALSO POWER....
