V-Line Shotgun Case not CA DOJ Approved?

Reading up on shotguns for home defense, I picked up on the recommendation for using a simplex locking case in a ready accessible location such as under the bed. All I was able to find through searching online was the V-Line Shotgun Case, but there is a disclaimer on their page saying:
This would be for my first shotgun, and I was hoping to use such a case for permanent storage. What is the safety issue with this case? What are my alternatives here?

All they are saying is it is not a firearms safe for purposes of the lock waiver affidavit.

              It's a gun...there's always safety issues.

The case does not constitute a lock (or safe) per DOJ. Therefore a lock must be purchased/supplied to take delivery. After that, it's up to you. You're the one liable for it's mis-use. If kids have access to your storage place (under bed), then I wouldn't take that lightly.

all it means is that you now have to purchase a $6 cable lock when you pick up your shotgun.

Yes, I have kids in the house, so safety is my primary concern, right next to having the ability to protect them as well from an ill intentioned intruder.

There are other simplex locks, such as the Shotlock, that are CA DOJ approved. Unless I'm missing something, doesn't this case also uses the same type of lock?

I love the shotlock concept.. I just ordered 2. One for each vehicle..

Costco has them on sale for $99, free shipping until Oct 2, 2011.. Best price I have seen by far. Plus it's Costco. You can decide you hate it a year from now and return it..

Also picked up the Gunvault Mini Standard 1000 for 69.95 from Costco as well..
