benellis fail ONLY when you hang too much stuff on them and then try to use reduced recoil rounds.

ive run tons of full power 12g through my benelli m1s90 with a surefire. no problems.

in non-surefire benelli, expect zero malfs with anything.

I really like my M4, too, but there's no real reason an 870 Rem or 590 Moss isn't just as good, with a little training and range time learning to pump it. The $1000 you save can buy a dedicated Surefire forend, sidesaddle, and quite a few cases of buckshot and slugs, too.

On a pump shotgun you can have a collapsible stock and pistol grip, but only one or the other on a semi. Semi's are the only ones subject to the AW regs.

Without some hoop jumping you won't be allowed to have more than 5 rounds in the tube of an M4, either. 922(r) Federal regulations come into play on the M4.
the hoop jumping isnt as bad as most people make it out to be, it just costs more. the parts arnt had to get.

my bad about the spas12 being a aw instead of dd.

as for the 870, its much cheaper than the m4, if your on a budget go for it over the m4. i can run a pump(generly) pretty quickly, most people when i take it out on the range think im shootin a semi.

IMO a ANY comped gun is a bad idea for a dfense weapon, i have run the vang guns and esp. in the dark bays at TMW, theres still a considerable flash from the comp... which in lowlight sucks for the shooter. that said, the comps do make a difference.

Why would the Surefire affect their reliability?

After months of searching for understanding, I gave up on putting my US-made full-length tube, as I couldn't figure out wth the "final answer" was for #of parts replacements. If you have an ATF letter and parts list for the M4, I could do this! I have a tube, spring and fore-end. What other parts are out there and needed?

If I had a nickel for every time I was wrong... Being a listed AW is a big issue. Don't touch anything listed.

contact "sure cylce" and get one of their followers. that should be your parts. do you have a surefire foreend?

one thing i must say, i hear it every day and it drives me nuts... the racking of a pump as being a deturrent is insane... just like yelling "i have a gun" great, know i the big bad criminal know your armed and i will be that much more aggressive if i have a weapon.... the idea of letting somone know your armed when they have no clue is asinine. thats my 2 cents.

the issue of adding weight to an inertia driven gun is that more weight= more recoil absorbed by the weight. a surefire equiped benelli m1 with a full side saddle never really affected my shooting... i found i just needed to lean a little more into it.(if that makes sense) if i didnt, it would short-cycle.

Do you have the ATF letters with parts count and list? I tend to be pretty paranoid on these things and I've seen people list them, but no real letters. Yes, I have a Surefire fore-end (rail), but I don't like it. Know of others?

I love people who say racking a slide is a deterrent, too. Just gives an auditory clue of where you are, should the perp be so inclined. I'm sure it works on some, but I'd hate to be in a situation where it's the guy who's looking for more than just money.

More weight on the gun should mean it moves less, allowing the inertia to work better. Recoil isn't "absorbed" by mass, the gun just moves less because the inertia of the gun is higher. That should make the gun operate better (like a more sturdy shouldering).

i dont have the letters but the parts list is available.

right now there is no option other than the SF rail... hopefully mesa will release the FCAM soon.

maybe absorb is the wrong word... it take more force to move something heavier.

man i used an m1 yesterday, so much faster than my m4, i had an audience at the range last night. i was surprised at how fast i was shooting. i need another m1 now
