Maverick 88 - Opinions?

I was thinking about getting a Maverick 88 (Mossberg Budget Line). It seems to get pretty good reviews. I was wondering if anyone here has good / bad experience with them...

Also, I am planning on getting the ATI top folding stock for it. Do you think the top folding stock would look better on the 6 shot or 8 shot?

They're pretty good shotguns. Fired a few, they're just like the Mossberg 500, just a tad bit cheaper. If you're just looking for a home defense/range gun it'll serve its role reliably

Get the 8 shot "Security" model. They are good simple, "down to business" shotguns, I regret selling mine.

Best price to jump on one is for $200-$250 <--- MAX price. Although you are much likely to run across them for much cheaper than that if used or on sale somewhere.

They have them on sale at my local store for 189.99 but the picture in the ad shows the 6 shot, not sure if the ad covers the 8 shot as well though.

6 shot works really well and you can pick up other barrels for them as well.

Feels cheap, but hell it will perform! I think it'll be a great candidate for a truck, car gun with the folding stock like you mentioned.

Look buy what you can afford. I own a Hawk 982 which is a knock off of the Remington 870. My HDSG works fine and I paid like 199 for it out the door at big 5. The Mav will work ok but get the hawk if you can find it for same price the 982 is way more durable heavier than the Mossberg's. It's got something to do with the receiver being not stamped or something.

Thanks all. I just bought the Maverick. I got the last one they had. I almost didn't get it because when I called they said that they didn't have anymore, but then I called back later on to see if I could get a rain check and they said that they did have one left.

Great job snagging one. Love mine. I believe about 95% of the parts are interchangeable with the mossy 500 line as well.

I actually like the safety position better then on the Mossberg 500 for when you go to a pistol grip as well.

Buy quality once, buy cheap you'll buy often. The Mavrick may work as advertised for a while, but they are "Mossberg lights". Something has to give to make something cheaper. You get what you pay for.
As far as what stock LOOKS best...WTF over? It's how it shoots and feels that one should be concerned with. Appearance is last place if you're actually going to shoot the piece. Top folders are notoriously hell on cheek welds, a critical component to SG marksmanship.

i'd just buy a used mossberg 500, imho, don't get me wrong the maverick's are nice n all, but the 500's just seem a bit better

I'm at 3,6xx shells through mine, and never had an issue. Mine is about 10 years old and I'm the 2nd owner.

It's my workhorse and one of my favorite to shoot. I've added the Blackhawk/Knoxx recoil reducing AR-stock set, and it makes it INCREDIBLY manageable & fun to shoot!

Its cheap because the parts are made in mexico and assembled in america. Ive talked to people who have owned their mavericks for almost ten years now with hundreds of rounds fired and no complaints or breakdowns.

Its basically a 500
