Mossberg 500 question

Hello everyone,

Forgive me as I am new to guns in general, and I have been doing research for the past month. I have finally decided to purchase my first shotgun, which is primarly for home defense.

Is this a good decision? I also wanted to get some 00 bucks, but was confused on which size to get. The chamber is 3" so does that mean I need to get these winchesters (http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ducts_id/57941) in 3" or can I get 2 3/4"? Which company makes the best 00 bucks? Any suggestions?

1) Nothing really wrong with that shotgun.

2) Yes, you can use 2 3/4" shells in a shotgun marked 3" like the 50577 that you're looking at.

3) Best to try a bunch and see what you like.

Thats a good gun but for the price id go with the maverick 88. Its made by mossberg and they have an 8 shot model

that mossberg is a solid choice

you should shoot it, and if you experience no problems with fit and/or use, then pull the trigger and don't look back

I would choose the actual Mossberg over the maverick, if I were staking my life on it. I base this on absolutely nothing, however. Never ran a Maverick. My 500A has been rock-solid for the past ten years, when I bought it used. I have the 20" version with the long mag tube and wood furniture. I prefer the wood over poly, for it's dual utility as a Shillelagh when the tube runs dry. Not that I have ever tried to club anything into submission with it, but logically, wood seems like the better choice. Personally, I think that wood-appointed shotguns look better as well.

Get the mossberg. Although not the best shotgun out there, it's the best for the money you will spend. I have serveral shotguns, and one of them is a mossberg 500 which i have no problems with.

500 Combo here, works well. I replaced the furniture with a 12" Hogue LOP stock and Hogue Overmold forend. Feels much better now.

If you want to go all out may I suggest you look into a Benelli M4?
