to choke or not to choke

I am the proud new owner of a Mossy 590a1 with the 20" bbl, overall I really like the gun but would like to add a little versatility to it. I'm thinking about having a choke installed, but not sure if this even a good idea. Has anyone seen/done this? If so any suggestions on a particular system or gunsmith to use? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

      LMFAO....

Friend of mine threaded his Remington 870 Express. Said his patterns were crap. I would shoot it first, with different types of ammo and see how it patterns. For HD, you might not need it. If you want use it for skeet, it might be necessary. Maybe one of the resident shotgun pros will chime in.

The urge to choke is very strong but against the law and a Domestic Battery charge takes your weapons away so when she starts nagging that you bought another gun you have to stay calm............wait, you mean adding choke tubes to a barrel. Sorry, any time the word choke comes up I think about the ex. Tubes are for small shot. So if you are shooting mostly buck shot and slugs don't do it.

If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.

If she's into it, I say do it. Just make sure you have a safe word.

I'd say pick up an extra barrel that already has a choke tube installed. It would cost about what the gun is worth to install choke tubes in that particular firearm..

I knew that title would get some good ones... a wiener joke and a domestic violence joke in one night, that's a personal best. Back to the gun for a second, I'm happy with the patterning when I shoot buck, minus the occasional flier but id like to be able to shoot a little skeet/bird. Local smith said it would run me around $150 to install, I'm just curious if it is worth the cash with regards to performance. Thanks again.

You could spend about the same amount of money for an extra barrel, Mossberg barrels are relatively inexpensive, have a barrel to sport with and not have to fuss with the HD barrel.

                  YMMV.

Do what the Big Dog said. Best advise for a multi use shotgun.

I thought about this but I was told that the non-A1 barrels don't play well with the 8 shot tube and nut, and the A1 barrels all seem to be cyl bore. am i misinformed?

I used to have a poly choke on a Winny Model 12. It worked well, but I still felt it to be unsightly. Sold it many a year ago.
