Benelli M4 questions. (need pics)

I have this suspicion that the M4 barrel/gas system will fit on an m1 receiver with little to no work.

From looking at a few pictures and handling an M4 it looks like the only addition is the steel plate at the front of the receiver.

Can someone please take or link some detailed photos of the front of the M4 receiver with the barrel off and the breach of the M4 barrel ?

No the barrel won't fit.

Thanks for the answer but what is the issue?

Different breach size, bolt/carrier, clearance for the pistons?

I know the magazine tube is different and will not allow the m4 barrel to slip over it but that is easily adjusted.

The portion that extends into the barrel is completely different. As far as what the pistons engage to function the gun I'd have to take mine apart. Not tonight.
