I bought my 10 yo son a Mossberg 500 super bantam for hunting and while teaching him how to run his gun we are having a problem with the safety. It's too hard for him to release it while mounting the gun. I've added a bit of oil to it and have worked it several hundred times myself to see if I can loosen it up. Should I take it to a gunsmith? Could they make it easier to operate?

Sons Mossberg 500 super bantam safety help needed

I had a similar situation when my wife tried to release the safety of our Mossberg 590A1. While I could easily release the safety, my wife had a hard time to do it.
Then I realized that the safety switch was not hard to release, but the angle that my wife's thumb pushing the safety (downward instead of forward) -- it might be contributed by the smaller thumb of the ladies/kids (probably the surface area, or the less muscle on the thumb; which makes the thumb pushing the safety 'downward' instead of 'forward', if we know what I mean...)
While I explained it to my wife, with some practices now she could release the safety much easier.
Regards,
P.S. Also, try to install an oversized safety (available by many sellers on the web) and see if it helps.
